Re: Thoughts on MA6x digi dash vs RA6x/GA6x analog one?

My RA60 has an analog dash, and my GA61 has a digital one. I don't REALLY have a preference for either.
Speedo on digital is annoying if your speedo cable is a little loose like mine and you're trying to maintain a steady speed, jumps around a bit. It's probably accurate, but annoying
The digital fuel gauge shits on the analog one when it's working right. The analog is vague as. The digital has a fuel scale change button which shows you the last 15% of fuel left in the tank. Much more accurate.
The tacho is fine, although mine is partially obscured by my steering wheel. I've not really driven my car in anger since the conversion though, so we shall see. I quite liked it before.
As far as digital dashes go, it doesn't seem all that cheesy, but you really have to evaluate it for yourself.
The only thing I don't like about the digital dash is when you get sunlight coming from directly behind you onto the dash. Can make the speedo a little hard to read.

I am about to go through the pain of changing from digi to analogue (Blake has done it as well).
Whilst the analogue dash (I scored the ex Malaysian MA61 unit from JCMF & CrUZida) is not all that great, I much prefer it. Personal prefernce really.
One thing I have learnt though, is that the digi dash is made up of 4 modules, so when one craps out, you just pull it apart and replace the buggered module (as I did on the speedo section of mine).
You can buy my didgi dash as well as the other one that I have for spares if you want ....

Or more accurately, he watched while it was being done.
As for the digi dash, it's cool for a few weeks and then you realise it's nowhere near as practical or easy to read as analog dials. I don't like my digi dash, but after the pain of Blake's analog conversion I can't be arsed doing it again.

Why couldn't you live in Adelaide Norbs, aso you could have done mine. I would have brought the beers at least .....
I have most of the connections worked out, but would love to double check with someone else.
I really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really hate wiring !

Why do you think I sold you the dash instead of doing it myself?

Bastard
It is something that I can do now or later. Now that I have the digi one working properly, I can live with it for a while until I get my act togther and sort out the analogue one

I have one of each, Cressida is analogue, XX was digital.
I really don't have a preference either.
As long as the speedo cable is in good condition, the speedo won't jump around.
Its less noticable on an analogue to see it wavering a few mm.
While the digital fuel guage is much more accurate, it only samples the tank every few minutes.
ie, if I park the car on a slope to the left, the guage will drop about 3 bars while parked.
It takes a good 5 mins of driving before its back up to where it should be. The analogue one will adjust in about 5 seconds.
However, with the analogue one, you hammer it, throw it into a corner, or stand on the brakes, and it will drop/raise about 1/4 of a tank. The digital doesn't do that.
The best thing about the analogue is watching the speedo needle fly up quicker than most tacho's do.

i found the digital fuel gauge to be inaccurate. but having never owned an analog dash, perhaps that one is even more so.
its mostly personal preference, but i love the digi dash. its just so cool, so 80's, makes me feel like david hasselhof. if only the car talked back.

Well owning 2 MA61 i found that the digital dash works in both to the same extent. But i think the speedo is good, u get a pretty spot on idea of how fast u r going... as for hte tacho, well my 5ME supra works, my 7mGTE doesn't, but i don't miss it.. wolf3d hanset is better!!
So i am neither in favour or against, i like the speedo, but the tacho is a bit fucked. but if i was u just stick with wat u got its too much hassle going through he pain of changing it all over!

I finally sold my pristine MA61 and have a 91 soarer. I am pleased to still be able to live in Night Rider land. The digital dash is one of the coolest things about the MA61, it was one of the first mass prod cars to get one. Once the fad of analogue dials is over and everyone gets formula one style LCD insert dash units, you will want to put your digital dash back in.

I prefer the digidash, the speedo is great, so easy to read. But around 70 mine jumps heaps, 65-73
The fuel gauge is good, scale change is alright, I suspect my sender is a bit grubby, or i'm not paying enough attention. Sometimes ill see the thing a bar or two above half way, then all of a sudden i look down and two bars have dissapeared.
I hate the digi tacho, i wish they had made one with a better scale or an analog one... meh.
Digidash gets street cred Everyone 'wows' at it

All I like about the digital dash is the Speedo as it is easy to read (as it's in the middle with big numbers). As for the fuel guage, I don't like that as it's very slow to react and is at times hard to caculate how much is left. Temp guage is OK I suppose to tell the driver if it's over heating...
As for the analogue dash, I wish the SA63 had the oil pressure guage and not an idiot light (I added an oil pressure guage) and only if the speedo was 99% accurate and not 85%+-10 accurate like what it is currently...
Cheers.
