1JZ-GTE TPS

Does anyone know what the procedure/readings should be when testing the throttle position switch on the 1JZ-GTE motor ?
And how the hell do you get the test leads under the inlet and onto the right terminals ?
If anyone in WA has a spare connector from the harness (or knows where to get one) that clips onto the tps, so I can plug it in and then clip my test leads onto the wires above the tps, please let me know.
Thanks

Ash - I do have a spare (slightly damaged) TPS connector with about 5cm of wire hanging out of it.
PM me if you still want it.

Thanks Peter, but I managed to get a connector on the way home yesterday.
Did the test on the TPS and it looks like the sender is working alright, but the inbuilt switch may have a problem.
I will try test do the test on another 1JZ just to confirm I am doing it right and something is wrong with the TPS.
How on earth do you get those links from that website ?
I had a look but couldn't find where you get into the engine info.
Thanks
Ash

Just tested another TPS on a soarer and the sender matched mine, but the switch on this one was different.
Therefore I believe that the IDL switch from the TPS is not working.
Can you repair/clean/fix them or does it mean I need a new one ?
Does anyone in Perth have one available (please) ?

So is your IDL switch not closing, or is it permanently closed?
If it is not closing (& thus not telling the ECU your foot is off the throttle), you may be able to adjust it by moving the throttle stop screw (which will let the throttle blade close just a bit further).
Alternatively, try rotating the TPS itself (make sure you mark it's original position before doing this) to see if you can get the IDL switch to close.
I guess if it is permanently closed it sounds like the switch is stuffed.

Peter

Before you adjust the TPS itself, get some carby cleaner or throttle body cleaner and clean the throttle body and the butterfly.
They sometimes get gummed open and it only takes a portion of a mm for the IDL contact not to close

Inside the throttle body, with a rag, and the cleaner.
The same why you clean parts.
