4AGTE GearBox Upgrade Thu, 12 May 2005 03:59 Go to next message
Im putting together my 4AGTE and was wondering what other options i have for gearbox's i have a T50 at the moment but dont know what sort of power it can handle. Also it will be a drift only car so it might be driven a bit harsher than a road car. Last what diff / axle upgrades can i do, i was thinking a T18 like most ppl, but my mate suggested a hilux rear diff and axles, would this work??

as for gearbox, yes, supra 5-speed can be used with an adaping bellhousing.

The common 1410mm hilux diffs don't need shortening to fit the KE70 Smile They are pretty heavy though... How much power are you planning to make?

F series are only 5 mm wider too, so another option for a strong, but lighter diff than the hilux.

Well initally i wont be making much more than 110-120rwkW but would like to build up to about 160rwkW will i just be able to use standard axles?? if so i could weld the standard diff until i can afford a 2 way LSD.

Go the Hilux diff - don't even THINK about using the original Bogwarmer, or a T diff. T50 is a waste of time too - W box from the outset is the only way.

Do people reckon with the extra weight from the hilux diff and W-series box will it affect the handling of the car, what sort of of gear box mounts will i need, just ones off an old supra if i choose a W55??

Welding your diff will be a good way to ensure that you WILL break axles Laughing Don't consider it unless you have time to waste & a lot of spares Smile
