1J Belt setup without AC and PS

How have others gone about running a smaller accessory belt on their 1JZGTE. I Dont need a power steering pump or air con pump. I have thought of modifying the Alternator mount to pivot to act as a tensioner but would like to know what others have done. Any help please.

Just thinking about it quickly it would be an option to retain the tensioner etc. and just make a idler pulley where the PS pump was. Then size up a suitable (shorter length) belt.

skip's idea will probably save hassles - just mount a bracket & pulley up in place of p/s pump, then measure for what you need. I also considered this, but the p/s is a great system on my car (good feedback), so I didn't want to ditch it.

I am running my 1jz without AC & PS. I have moved the alternator to the passengre side. It has a bracket that allows the alternator to pivot. I also have a 2j water pump which has a different sized pulley.
Off the top of my head, my belt is 115cm 5 rib one. And that was lucky because the next step up was about 8cm bigger.

while we are on the topic of power steering and what not, I am curious as to the hydraulic fan pump thing connected to the waterpump, obviously I am not running the hydraulic fan but becuase I am not does that mean I dont have to block those two areas off or can i leave them open, what actually flows through there? i was thinking power steering fluid? or does it usually have its own resovoir, if it does then i dont need to do anything right?

You have to feed them back on each other and keep it full of fluid.
Otherwise the bearings will die in a couple of weeks.

If you are not running the hydraulic fan you can purchase a 2jzge water pump from toyota and do away with that cumbersome and messy set up.i heard here that they arent overly expensive.
I still have that stupid set up on my car,its on the list of "to do"

The pulleys are pretty expensive. I got mine from Giant tomato for a decent price though.

the pump itself is about $120 from memory.
the pulley goes for almost the same price, but if you can borrow one and take it to a machinist, they can make them up for $60 or less (or mine from gianttomato was anyhow)

I just spent 4 hours putting another 1JZGTE waterpump on, so i think ill give the change to a 2JZ one a mis for the time being, will do it eventually tho, any idea on what sort of fluid you put in the pump? I was just going to use power steering, is that ok?

Hiya Pube, I set up my 1J, without A/C and P/S. I used the standard belt tensioner, and a 1 metre 6PK belt. Alternator stayed in the original spot. Water pump was not an issue, as there was no fluid drive for cooling fan on my 1J. Drop me your email address, and I will send you a pic.
cheers Chuck.
