Targa West - Volunteer Officials Needed

OK - here is the sales pitch:
This September sees the first running of an exciting new motor sport event in Western Australia - Targa West. Building on the long established success of similar events such as Targa Tasmania, East Coast Targa NSW and Classic Adelaide SA, Targa West will bring tarmac road rallying to Perth and the outlying regions of Chittering, Toodyay and Swan over the weekend of the 8-11 September 2005.
Targa West is being run by some of Western Australia's most experienced motor sport officials, maximising safety and enjoyment for competitors and spectators alike.
And here is my job:
I will be in charge of the chicane teams for this event. Rather than be at the start and end of each stage, these teams will be setting up chicanes mid-stage which are required to reduce the top and average speed of the competitors. Each team needs three people, one to operate a radio, one to wave a warning flag if/when cones get knocked over, and the last one to replace the knocked over cones. When you are not doing any of these things, you are spectating mid-stage on Targa West, watching the cars near full tilt and not near stationery as you would be doing at the start/end of a stage . I will need about 16, 3 person teams for this event and I would like to get some keen Perth based ToyMod members involved.
I have about six team leaders lined up already and so I am looking for 10 others who are reliable and can handle a bit of responsibility, and can grab a couple of mates to help them. If you are available for the Fri, Sat, Sun of the second weekend of September, and interested in this event, please start posting here with your contact details and any questions, thanks.

Hi,
I'm very interested (done some flag marshalling for the Motorcycles at Barbagello), as in my brother who's been pit crew for motorcycles and a marshall at Quit Motorplex.
May have one or two other friends interested, so I guess we could nominate to form a chicane team?
Anyway, keep us posted on meetings, etc. to discuss.
Regards
Gene

Gene,
Consider yourself on the list, and looking at what you have done before, you are almost overqualified for the job !
I will get some more info out to everyone who shows an interest in a week or so.
Thanks.
Cheers,
Mitch.

Ryan,
Being keen is all I ask and being a brand new event no one has any experience anyway !
Its a four day event from September 8 to 11 (Thursday to Sunday) but there is no camping provided at this stage, its out and back from home each day.
I will be calling meetings and planning trials before the event, more details once I get a few more people on board.
Thanks.
Mitch.

You will be needed - thanks for joining in. More info via e-mail when I get it. Just a note, former Aust. Rally Chmp Greg Carr is the official CAMS Tarmac Rally Checker and he will be driving the course over the June long weekend. He will have final say on the locaion and number of chicanes on the event. Once I have that info we are a go.
Cheers,
Mitch.

Yeah, I'll be up for it, but there's a good chance I can only do the weekend. I've got some basic motorsport and flag experience, nothing fancy. Email me at mullett@iinet.net.au

No, you don't need to be available on the Friday, and no, you don't need any previous experience, just a willingness to help and the nouse to do things properly and safely.
Would you like me to put you on the mailing list I have up and running?
Cheers,
Mitch.
