FS: AE86 TRD Street Coil Springs Fri, 13 May 2005 06:41 Go to next message
Was going to cut these and put them in my car but have decided that i'll be going down a different path with my suspension setup due to bargain pickup over the week.

It's a set of 4. 2 front 2 rear... perfect if your looking for an easy upgrade for your stock setup or if your keen cutting them to make them a harder and much cheaper alternative to trd race springs which are hard to come by and expensive

Part numbers are 48131-AE811 and 48231-AE811

listed on the trd website

Hardly used!!!

chasing a measily $300 (+ shipping if ur interstate) for a perfect street setup coil for an AE86

Located Melbourne Australia
Pm for further questions or call me

just a really quick question, i heard that it was unwise to "cut" your springs? is this true?

not trying to discredit your sale or anything, just interested.

it is unwise to cut them poorly

if done properly it further lowers the car, increases spring strength and won't compramise handling, infact increasing it...

pm Sam_Q he can explain the process pretty quickly

Because the spring rate is:

11250000 x wire diameter*4
8 x no. active coils x coil diameter*3

But with that said, i'd agree with simon and just get springs at the correct length and rate to begin with.

Eddie.

they are the street spring, not the race one so thats why they are softer...

as i was planning to do... cut them

they are lower and harder than my old kings

price is negotiable so make an offer =b

I've got chopped TRD's in the front of my car. They were almost stock height 4.7KG/MM when I bought them, after I chopped them i managed to lower them about 2 inches and the spring rate probably got raised to around 5.5KG/MM. Was really freaky chopping such expensive springs, but the finished product was definately worth it. TRD springs rock Wink.

Edit: Oh yeah this is a FKN GOOD PRICE Shocked. I payed $260 for just my front pair... GL with sale Shiri Very Happy

Kev.

pretty sure ae71's and ae86's share a similar suspension setup... maybe someone here might no? otherwise search somewhere or ask in tech ref

Yes rears are identical, fronts aren't by a long shot, but a bit of dodgy work with some nice thick fence wire can fix that Wink

Kev.

Edit: Just realized that the TRDs look a bit different to AE86 stock front springs. Looks as though if you chop them the right amount at the small end then they should fit right in, and that chopping distance should be perfect with height too Wink. (KE70/AE71 front springs are identical in proportions to rear springs).

http://ke70.theicy.net/trds.jpg

For these springs to be a safe chop you will either have to get short stroke shocks or use a modified version of Sam_Q's wire trick, seen with my current TRD springs in this pic, I have since upgraded to RA28 struts that would fit the small end perfect, but yeah.. Basically you tie a wire around 2 points at each side, the cheapest short stroke setup known to man Very Happy.

my wire trick? oh no you don't Kev! I am in denial!

Chopped springs can be great though if you do it right.

86DRFT: how did u get those spring rates? did u look it up?

sure did mate Smile

http://www.trdparts.jp/parts_spring.html

48131-AE811 K=27.4N/mm
48231-AE811 K=26.5N/mm

im guessing N is newtons so divide by 9.8 to get kg/mm

therefore front are 2.8kg/mm and rear are 2.7kg/mm

and phrostbite, i dont think they are pics of the actual springs Wink
