Importing an AE111 Fri, 13 May 2005 08:09 Go to next message
Hi guys, just thought I would let you all know, how the import and compliance of my sons AE111 went.

Car: AE111 Levin BZG

Engine: 4AGE 20 Valve blacktop

Compliance Company: Macjap Motors.

I went through the Dotars website, to find anyone who had RAWS certification for the AE111, at the time Macjap Motors was the only one.

I contacted Greg McIntosh (great guy to deal with) at Macjap Motors, and got the skinny on importing and compliancing the Levin.

Greg and I both started scouring the Japanese auction and car sales sites, and Greg was the first to come up with a car, that was within our budget, and met all our criteria, eg auction grade colour etc.

Greg uses a buyer in Osaka, who checked and reported on the car, and on his recommendation, we purchased the car.

This guy does the de-registration, the Japan Customs export paperwork, delivers the car to the wharf, and arranges shipping to Australia.

The RAWS ticket holder, has to apply for the Vehicle Import Approval.

Dotars issues Vehicle Import Approval

Car can now be shipped from Japan.

Car arrived at Glebe Island Sydney.

We employ a Customs agent, who clears the car through Customs AQIS etc. We pay them the duty the shipping, the AQIS cleaning fee, port fee, and their miserly $150.00 for all their trouble.

The car is released from Customs, and is transported to Macjap Motors, where Greg undertakes the compliance work.

Greg keeps me in the loop at all stages of purchase, shipping and compliance. The car is finally ready for me to collect.
As we will be registering the Levin in Canberra, Greg offers me the use of his dealer plate, to get the car to Canberra!!! Sweet.
I drive the car to Canberra, and courier the plate back to Greg.

The Levin sails through ACT rego inspection, we whack the plates on, and we are the very happy owners of a very nice 1996 Toyota Levin.

All up it took 10 weeks from Purchase to rego.

Would we do it again? YES

Cost breakdown:

AE111 Levin 356,000 Yen.
Agents fee, inc transport to wharf, Customs Clearance , and commission. 110,000 Yen

Sub Toatal Aussie Dlrs: $5716.00

Freight $ 914.00

Port Fee $ 90.00

AQIS cleaning $ 210.00

Import Duty $ 564.00

Towing to RAWS site $ 88.00

Customs Agent $ 150.00

Compliancing $3500.00

New Tyres $ 496.00

Total: $11728.00 Cool

Asking price at Edward Lee's Japanese Imports for one of these Levins $17,999.00.

So if you want one of these AE111 Levins, talk to Greg McIntosh at Macjap Motors.(02 96101479) Greg is located in the western Sydney suburb of Abbotsbury. Tell him Chuck sent you, and no I wont get a kick back! Sad 10 to 12 weeks wait is no biggie, if you want to save $6,000.00.

Like I said, Greg is great to deal with, the car is fantastic, and yes we would do it again!!!

Hope this helps someone in a position of wanting one of these 20 Valve masterpieces.

cheers Chuck.
