jza-70 / ma70 supra overheating??

Now that summer is getting closer, and hot days are numerous my 1jz powered MA70 is boiling when going up steepish hills, especially when going slowly (stuck in traffic etc). It has a brand new radiator, and the block/cooling system has been flushed (professionally??!). When driving on flat ground it is fine, even in very heavy traffic or driving hard - it seems to only overheat going uphill.
Has anyone had/seen this problem before? I'm guessing the turbos put out a fair amount of heat and am fitting an oil cooler beyond that there is no water in the oil/oil in the water that would indicate head gasket problems.

Hmmmm I was going to advise to get the radiator and block flushed but it seems you have already done that! Has there been any change to the size of the radiator??? Were any hoses changed when it got flushed?? Also your fans??? check that they are working when idleing for a long time like when you said you were sitting in traffic, (don't look when stuck in traffic, bet the lights go green juz as you pop the hood )
Do the fan check in your driveway just start the car and see if the temp skyrockets least you won't get stuck away from home!
cheers,
Adrian!

Check the temperature dependant viscous clutch on the fan. It make not me "grabbing" when your temp is getting hotter and isn't flowing enough air to keep it cool.

I would actually suggest that its the intercooler. As its right in front of the radiator and has to work really hard to disperse all the heat that the turbo is making cause its working so hard going up the hill. Then you take the added heat from the rest of the motor that is working hard and producing more heat for the cooling system to disperse. The radiator can't get rid of the heat 'cause the 'cooler is heating it up so up goes the temp. I also have an ma70 and it does the same thing on hills.
when it was flushed did they presure check the system? There may a little leak in there somewhere making the water heat more than normal. The coolant hose to the turbo on mine went and vented under pressure.

Surely it couldn't be that, Toyota does extensive testing and this surely couldn't be missed in the design of the JZA70.
My 3lt Turbo supra is still running a 2.8lt radiator and stock fan and i have two intercoolers stuffed in front of it. Do some more testing and you'll find the prob but take a look at the viscous clutch, replace the oil in it firstly.

Cooling system problems suck.
I know you mentioned it was proffessionally done, but...
Did you have the thermostat replaced?
And did they definitely bleed all the air out of the system?
Does the car after getting hot seem to gargle/tap/burble on after you switch it off?

2 cheap engine-saving devices to start with..
1)make sure you have a new thermostat (as above)
2)also replace your radiator cap.
After replacing the above..
The MA70 has a poorly designed cooling circuit that allows air to become trapped inside the system. Most radiator places may not "burp" the system properly. Follow this tech-tip to diy.

Oh, and while you're playing with the cooling system, and if you really love your car heaps and love spending money on it, I'd replace the top and bottom radiator hoses as preventative maintenance, and replace the coolant with the red Toyota stuff.

Apparently, TM, someone else has heard the gurgle noises too.
