Enter The Car n00b!
Alright here is the deal, I am a student with a cash flow problem atm but I should have that fixed up soon and I have a stock SA63 Celica. It still has its stock engine (2S-C which if anyone has some stats for it plz tell me!) and yep . . everythings just plain stock. I was wondering if anyone could tell what exactly I could do to get this thing haulin'. Cheers!

Simple - 3SGTE - although that might bust the budget a little bit! Don't expect to go too hard with a 2S - sure you can play with the exhaust, the air filter, maybe even get a bit more keen and play with the head and cam, but it still isn't gonna break your neck with intense power. Probably best to start saving for a transplant, in the meantime enjoy the 2S without wasting money on it.

I say go with the 3s-gte!! You already have most of the parts you need to do the conversion

If you do the 3S swap, make sure you save up $8-$10k if you're doing all the work yourself....

Haha, probably a bit more expensive than most of the other options, but you have probably the easiest RWD platform for a 3SGTE conversion.
Start saving and make the most of the 2S-C without spending much money on it. The 2S-C has 74kW, so its not exactly ground breaking, save for the 3SGTE.

if your going to spend 10 grand on a 3sgte why not consider a 1uzfe v8 lexus conversion, you could get it done for around the same price and have a shitload more power

Why spend 10 grand on an engine conversion when you could spend that on a new/better car?

If you need to ask that question, you probably shouldn't be on this forum in the first place.

Ok, lets just say $8 - 10k is gonna be hard to come by, so what would be a budget kind of transplant be that would get my car turbo powered? What other engines besides a 2S-c and 3SGTE could I use? 1GGTE?

I dont really see why a 3s-gte conversion would cost 8-10k! I'll be doing this conversion in my TA22 early next year and I havn't worked it out to be that much!
A half cut will cost about $3200 for a ST205 GT4
W5x Gearbox. Say $500
Bellhousing modified with starter on drivers side $160 max
Engine mounts allow $300
Inlet manifold modified $300 max for a good job
Converter to remove dist cap $150 and allow for coil packs
It all adds up, but I think $8000 would be an absolute maximum!

shane
add on top of that new fuel pumps, (bigger tank ?)...bigger fuel lines
all wiring ...if you cant do that yourself your wallet is going to get hammered
a GOOD exhaust can cost $1000 easy and thats just something basic
i cant see how a stock ta22 diff would keep up with a 3sgte ...LOL, ive seen the way you drive buddy
brakes....you gotta have more stop when you got so much GO !!
suspension...do you really think stock suspension is a great idea ?...i dont
and it goes on and on, id budget 10 grand and whatever is left is a bonus, put it towards insurance the damn bastard cos you gotta think of that too why spend 10 grand on a engine conversion and some uninsured prick wipes out your baby and your left with nothing until (if it ever happens) you get SOME money from the prick to start to fix it

I was just adding up the engine fitting costs! It doesn't really matter what upgrade you do you still gonna have to do the things you mentioned!

The fuel system upgrade, wiring (and likely aftermarket ECU), exhaust manifold, exhuast system, intercooler + plumbing are all part of the "engine conversion" cost.

But what I am saying is that all those are part of every engine conversion cost!
And you dont have to get an aftermarket ECU to use a 3S-GTE!
