AE86 suspension problem, T3 RCA Thu, 19 May 2005 11:53 Go to next message
i have been using the techno toy tuning roll centre adjuster and they made a difference to the handling of my car. i have currently got MX73 15" rims on my car but i am going back to 13" stock rims. (poor uni student, the stockies have good rubber on them)

now the problem i have is that on the grease nipple on the bottom of the strut is shearing into the the inside of the 13" wheel.

has any one else had this problem using the T3 RCA with stock ae86 wheels.

I've had this problem, but its nothing to do with 't3' RCA's.. It's just having roll centre adjusters in there full stop.

Only sollutions I can think of would be to -

fit larger wheels
fit wheels with a more + offset, eg. +10?
have a few mm machined off the rca so the nipple clears the wheel.

Cheers

Or remove the RCAs until you go back to 15s.

Or remove the grease nipple and replace it with a bolt with a lower head which clears the rim.

yes all good suggestions, unfortunately none i hadn't thought of.

i just want to be sure that ther is nothing else that could be screwed with the frontend, as it only occurs on teh drivers side.

i have taken the car to a suspension place and they everything else was good, but it bugs me a bit that it only happen on one side.

so it is just something that happens using rca and 13" rims?

I had the problem on 15" rims due to the offset.

It would knock off all the balance weights that they put around the lip of the inside wheel.

Then I changed to a different offset wheel and problem was gone.

Our RCA's are 35mm tall and will fit on "most" 13" wheels. Some wheels are a bit tight inside, depending on design.

I do have one set of custom RCA's that we machined down to 25mm in stock.

First try replacing the grease nipple with a bolt called a "button head allen screw" This is the low profile dome shaped bolt. It may give you just the ammount of clearance you need.

Thanks for all the support from you guys "down under"! We appreciate it and are very proud to have so many customers from Australia and New Zealand.
