Speedo not working

Hi,
Just recently my speedo stopped working. I was on my way home, and after driving from a stop at a set of lights, i noticed that the speedo was displaying a zero. I just noticed today that both the odometer and the trip meter do not work.
the tachometer and everything else is fine, and i came accross this in the TSRM
http://www.cygnusx1.net/supra/library/TSRM_MKII/be /BE_040.html

Where it says
"Does trip meter operate with meter disconnected and cable turned"
can any explain to me how to disconnect the meter and what cable do i turn? What am i supposed to do?
And where it says
"check total counter"
and
"check cable"
Where is the total counter and where do i check it?
Whcih cable do i check? I've already taken out the instrument cluster.
Thnx in advance

It uses a cable.
One of 4 things has happened
(most likely to least likely)
1) the cable has snapped
2) its come loose on the side of the box
3) its come loose on the back of the speedo
4) the speedo gear in the back of the gearbox has snapped.

there will be a throttle cable looking thing that runs out of ur firewall on the drivers side and runs down into ur gearbox somewhere dont ask me where as i duno wat car u have.. and it will undo off the gearbox and theres a square cable that runs out of it and u just turn it and if it doesnt show up on the speedo the cables probably snapped... so put ur cluster back in and try that the sensor will be for the ecu so i dont think you need to worry about that

This also happened once b4, but after i turned off the engine and restarted it, the speedo started working.
If it has come loose on side of the box, how do i get to the cable?
