stupid loud fuel noise

I'd love to pick the brain of anyone who can suggest what my next step should be.
The problem is when the fuel pump is running I have a *really* loud noise coming from the back - basically sounds like rushing fuel. The pump was new, and has been replaced and tried in assorted locations, so that has pretty much been ruled out. There's tons of fuel coming back through the return line and the engine doesn't lean out even at full power, so no issues there. The same model pump has been fitted to another ma61 making similar power (joorsh's) and he has no sound.
The only thing I can really think of is perhaps there's a small blockage in the fuel lines causing the fuel to have to push past it, making noise? The car sat for unknown months without being used... is it possible some sort of build up has partially blocked the lines? I really don't want to goto the trouble of replacing them and find out the noise is still there.

pump intake could have too much crap in it causing the pump to work over time and cavitate - highly unlikely
how full is the tank? the return line sprays into the tank from the top - sure you haven't hooked up the return line to the vapour outlet by accident?
pump was fitted without any of the noise isolaters?
fuel doesn't go off and hard - methanol turns to jelly if there's enough water around - is unlikley to form a hard deposit unless left to sit for months. Petrol might takes years to 'go hard' and would need heaps of pollutants to find something to react with suitably.

it makes the noise whether the tank has 5 litres or 35 litres in it. pump has been fitted with and without noise insulaters - no change. I think the shell was left for over a year, with no engine in it for a decent bit of that time.

Do you have a fuel pressure guage does it make the same noise with the fuel line goin into a bucket?

as in it was a new pump and making this noise, so I replaced it with another new one.
I don't have a fuel pressure guage handy, no. Interestingly, there is no noise when the pump is fitted to the tank and run prior to re-installing the tank.

Yes thats wats on my mind if you put a pressure guage in line you reading could be high giving the noise of a loaded pump. Is the car running funny/rich?

does the the JZ use a J pipe mounted on the block for the fuel return line? that may still have the restrictor in it, secondly check for lose fuel lines vibrating agentst the body

If you change the regulator, make sure you nip back to the dyno and get it retuned.
if the fuel pressure changes by a few psi, it will fuck up your tune.

Does it do it at idle?
Or only under load?
If its at idle, jack the car up, and go a length of hose.
Put one end in your ear, and the other end on various things on the fuel system.
You'll figure out exactly where the noise is coming from in no time.

yeah, it's stock - but there are plenty of ma61 owners out tehre running big fuel pumps without this issue (in fact, I think I'm the first to have it). will check the J-pipe when I get a spare few moments.
