1G Turbos - Is there a difference between gens?

Is there a difference between the gen 1, 2 & 3 CT12 turbos, I recall seeing a thread saying that gen 3 turbos were slightly different but can't find it again. Somthing along the lines of them being slightly larger?!?
The turbos on my Gen 3 are poo and I need to find another set and would like to find the right ones. is there some kind of marking on the castings that identify them at all??
Cheers
Simon.

Gen 3 ones are better, and will have slightly larger inlets. You can make sure they're gen3 by them having C something on them, or taking your inlet pipe and making sure the bolts line up perfectly.

Measure the bolt spacing, between the comp cover inlet pipes, from memory the gen 3s have 58mm from holes centres and the gen 1&2 have 52mm, there was also a thread on this forums describing the differences between the turbos.

nope they are all steel
since the queation about turbos are alredy asked , im hoping there will be a good answer to this , will any other turbos fit in the place of the stock 1g turbos , or maybe even with an adaptor plate so as to all the oil and water lines , are in the same position and line up without much trouble , maybe like the wrx turbos or something like wise that isn’t too big but still bigger than the ct12’s
|
importbitz.com has a few 1g kits

YEA seen them but dont want to spen that much , just wondering what i can do when the ct12's pack up i didnt want to go single turbo was just wondering weter i could put any other turbo in there without much mods
iwas thinking of fitting 2 wrx turbos they are pretty small and should work well i think but the flange for it is different thres a few manifolds on importbitz think they wrer t3 flange so maybe if one of those manifolds were put in with the wrx turbos they might work nicely im hoping , lolllllll
