Hey all! I found on the TRD newzealand site some Toms High Compression Pistons for 1100 bucks. with rings and piston.
I was going to put them in my blacktop 20v, but I am not sure what benifit these will give me? would the high compression ones be better than the lightweight blacktop ones I have now???
sorry Im a engine internals NOOB

What compression ratio are the pistons compared to the ones you have now?

More compression is good if you want NA but you'll need the appropriate tuning to get the best out of it.
Anything over 11.5:1 on the street will be annoying.
Around 11:1 would be good.

mmmm thats high to high for street will go hard but you need race fuel and alot more mods for those I.E bigger injectors Porting of heads oring block or metal head gasket, Head Stud kit After market computer or a piggy back computer, Better spark = Big Dollars try 11:1 much better for street.

anyone know the compression of the small port (100kw) 4AGE?
i guess it's less than the 20v yeah? if i got 20v pistons in mine would there be an improvement?
ive been thinking about this , then i saw this post which is good...and im unsure is the compression of an engine the pistons and the head gasket or ???
so thinnier head gasket(thinnier raises compression right?) , 20v pistons , largest possible cams on factory ecu , 2 1/4 exhaust , extractors , pod filter......would it go considerabley well? i hope so , turbo'n it would just be to expensive and its best to keep an N/A an n/a.

You can't use 20V pistons on a 16V head
Search too. 99.9% of 4A questions have previously been asked.

High compression (higher than 11.5:1) requires hi octane fuel.
ie, race fuel.
It also requires a cold intake temp and fine tuning.
Not really good on a daily driver type car.
The B/T 20valve is about as good as you will get.
Put some aftermarket management on it and it will be slightly better (Toyota tends to have fairly conservative tuning)

ok then, I dont want to go overkill and turbo. I love turbo engines but I would prefure to be able to rev it heeps without doing major damage as would forced induction on the wrong setup. I have a a highflow cat, extractors and 2.14" exhaust and Cold Intake from the left headlight. I have thought about upgrading the standard $5.00 plugs to some platinum plugs. What upgrades should I consider worthwhile? I am new to this so any help is apreciated

You've pretty much done all the cheap work.
Next would be better cams (I'm not sure how good the stock ones are), port the head, and aftermarket ecu.
Problem with starting with a hypo NA Toyota motor is that there is very little room for improvement.

Bigger cams wont do much on stock ecu.
Changing the ecu will be the first step if you want to get more power.
