|

This is my final rebuild of my celica. You know enough is enough when you rebuild a car more often than you drive it. thats all I want to do, is drive it every day.If a full conversion for a six or a turbo falls in my lap, well thats a different story. Here's some pics of previous upgrades till current.

Ok I think I figured it out, lets see.
This is first attempt, a repaint from ferrari red to monza red.
18Rc thrown out for 18rgeu with air.
next few are the transformation for this rebuild till the sad and devastating end.
this was rebuild one, it included
Recaros with rear re-trimed to match, simmons b45s 245x50x15 rear & 225x50x15 front. selby suspesion & sway bars, koni adjustible shocks 2.5inch pipe & hurrican extracters plus ,plus.
This car was stolen from the front of my house in 1994. I actually heard it been driven off and ran out and jumped in my vh c'dore & chased the roar or the engine in the distance. I rang the cops on an in car mobile I had , they told me to report it at the station(sux).
The car was missing for 3 weeks now, I thought lost for ever.I spoke to the suppliers selby and muffler shop about what happened to me.
Then a mirracle the muffler shop rang me & told me they just had my muffler in to be modified for a rt104, yes he did take the rego. I told the detectives working in the case & they impounded his car. I went to the impound yard with a jack & tools to recover my engine, susp, muffler. I had to dismantle the lot & put it all in the back of my vh c'dore.
The police told me not to touch anything thats not his. Well. I cut all the wires under the dash, destroyed his stereo, through the gearbox in his back seat with oil everywhere, sand in fuel tank. But then I actually found his rego papers in the glove box ha. Visit time. Still missing recaros, sports wheel, and more
stay tuned Im tyred. Oh we found the car and this is what was left of it.

Your not wrong about that.
I actually whent to his place in a holden hsv straight from work suit and all. I knock on his door and asked for him. He came out saw the car, suit and shit himself. I told him the what fors and threatened him, also that I will camp at the top of the street til I get the rest of the gear back. He shit himself again and ended up telling the police that I threatened him. They rang me & asked me if i did say Those things to him, I told them yes i did, they said ok no problem his a shit anyway & hung up. He got 3 yrs periodic detention. Rebuild 1 complete. Stay tuned for Rebuild 2

I bought this siver ra28 with 18rgu and carbies.
Put on the remains of the previous car. EFI, susp. exhaust, wheels & recaro's. Drove it around for a while, though no power, something was not right. Maybe the comp of 8.7 with Efi not right ??????? It did come with a shitty sunroof though.
I got the spay bug and sprayed it british racing green, not the best spay job. And fitted an electric sunroof I picked up for $150.You can see the previous recaro's in this pic.
Cleaned up the engine bay, tryed a air filter from a corona for rego then added a pod.
That was rebuild 2. but rebuild 3 is the current state.stay tuned.

Now the spray gun out again, jet black this time. With the gold centre simmons, tinted windows, retrimed recaro's and interior, new leather sports wheel, 12 stacker, custom console, revamed engine bay, with 9.7 comp pistons in 18rgu with geu efi and emanage piggy back computer, strut brace, camber caster kit. That whats going or gone already on this rebuild. Pics will tell the story.
under grey undercoat under black primer for straightness
Now the end colour, jet black with clear coat. I will still sand it back with 1500 wet & dry & buff it
Actually the engine bay came up nice
The next photos will be the new interior, black with grey inserts, should suit the car. This is now overdue for completion I've been slack, Hope this project will make it to the dubbo show or a show where you guys can tell me what next, eg full major engine conversion.

Thats the thing, getting it together. The next step is to take it to the trimmer for the carpet and roof linning to be done. The door panels and rear panels have been re-trimmed but I have not picked them up yet.
Your not real happy about my air filter are you. Once the bumper and grille go on it hopefully will serve its purpose, and not look as (??????)can't think of the word, theres not much fresh air that can get into these engine bays.

yeah something about them air filters... usually u see them on mirages or lancers who want to have a front mount cooler but dont have a turboed engine so they get a kinda weird lookin filter to put there instead! meh ur call so..
personally i would of done a cold air intake!
but ur car is the goods i cant get over tehm rears mn thats sick

The thing about the air filter is that I could not get around which would be better the pod with a cold air intake, that would need to be covered so the engine heat would not affect. Or the standard air filter box with intake. Tryed both seems the filter box was better more power and torque, whereas the pod just made noise and felt like the car just wanted to rev out.
I had cut a hole with tubing in front of the front strut tower with for the cold intake. exactly where the blue piping in now inthe previos photo of enging bay.If it does't work it will go, thats for sure.It must have a better feel in the power band than the filter box or else.

I first saw this air filter on a honda CRX, looked stupid at first, knowing that he did not have a turbo and wanted that intercooler look. But mine will be fully covered by grille and bumper.
I've looked at turboing the 18rg, but 6 grand, I'd rather go down the full conversion for that money.
The console was made at car console supplies in carlton sydney.
They have the template and you tell give them the stereo or tell them what you will need cut out for you.

At this stage the motor is an 18rgu with efi.
- 9.7.1 comp new rings & bearings, guides and chains
-head match ported to intake & exhaust
-5 angle cut valves & reseated
-heavyduty valve springs
-the rg cams. The lumpy ones
-machined & balanced crankshaft
-block acid dipped & honed.
My aim at this point is to get a reasonable amoutt of power out of this motor with going extreme, that is custom items eg pistons,re-modeling efi intake and such. what ever I can buy that stightly better and off the shelf I will.I was hoping to go down the road of supra box & ventilated disc F/R but this is all refabricating. Im at the stage of, Buy it complete, to be fitted by myself, rather than send it here there & everywhere.

Hey jeffro,
the pistons are std 18rg bought second hand off these forums.
Hey I've been keeping up with your progress too, nice going so far. Its so great to do a rebuild from scatch your self.Personally I'd rather drive a 30 yr old car that i've build to the way I want it than drive a clone car with the thousands spent on it, as every body else eg wrx, 200sx, gtr which I had a vspec r33. If I really had 40grand to spent on a car it would be a 69 mustang boss 429. So this is the next best thing. Keep It going mate.
The motor is nice and smooth, nice power range. The efi does make a difference in fuel and reliability.

Yeh the rims do look good and wide, especialy from behind the car, the problem is finding tyres to relpace the rear. There due to be changed soon, but I cannot find a brand in australia to fit them. Everybody says that its a weird size, old and uncommon. 245x15x15. They have them in 16s and up but not 15s.
You can get them in 14s even, Mainly bf goodridge.

I,ve started back on the car, still working on any paint blemmishes. The battery is flat, but from the last time I started it it ran smooth, had that grunt feel to it. So I hope she will perform well on the road again. She handle well before and had some good mid to top end, I hope this will give a good ride though the whole power band.
As I said before, all I want the best and reliable ride I can get for my budget.
The console was $250 or 280???? Pretty well made.
At the moment I'm rubbing back the clear coat with 1500 wet & dry then the buff. I'll see what that looks like this w/end.I had to sand off the dead bugs.

oh yeah.. thats lookin gooooooooooooddd..
ive seen how mine should look,, crazy insane beautiful..
Unbelievable how people can just get the urge to steel a car and rip another persons heart out..
I once built up a car swapped an engine, hand crafted a bodykit in my school hols.. it was never stolen but it cought fire when i was driving to school.. watched it burn to the ground in front of me..
It was my faulty workmanship.. had noone to blame..
you on the other hand.. did well not to kill him..........................
Good on you for getting back on the horse..
