This may be a stupid question. I own a 94 Camry LE and the engine just died on me at 360,000kms. My brother just bought a new car and has a 90 Camry LE with only 110,000kms. Can this engine be put into my 94 Camry?
In NSW the RTA dont like retrofitting older engines into cars for the reason that emmissions controll on older engines is not built to the same standards. However, If you can demonstrate that the emmissions control on your 90 engine is the same as your current engine, you might be able to do it.
Talk to your local approved engineer.
With a Camry LE it sounds like you are from the USA or Canada. If the engine is the same series, that is 5S-FE I take it (?) you should have no problem, however, before you start, talk to your local Vehicle Licensing or Dept of Transport office, and ask them what the rules are when you change an engine.
It may be just a simple notification ofn the 'new' engine number, if the 'new' motor is mechanically identical to the old motor.
