4AFE/4EFE igniter output... Sine or Square wave?? Wed, 25 May 2005 23:10 Go to next message
Hi!

So, I am trying to get my orginal tacho meter to work with my 20v 4AGE ingiter. I think this is because one works with sine wave and the other with square but I dont know which uses what.
Can anyone help me with this. I would realy like to get my tacho to work. But if no one knows the answer... does anyone know the toyota partnumber for the ae101 Levin tacho? I migth just as well swap it for the one in my dashboard if everything else fails.
If the wave thing is my problem, does anyone recommend where to buy a Sine to Square wave Converter?

Thanks!
Tomas

I had a CRO hooked up to the ECU for my silvertop 20v just this weekend as I'm looking to make up a circuit to give me an indication of ignition advance (comparing timing of the distributor's signal against the ignitor signal and hence getting advance).

Unfortunately the details are at home but I'll try to remember to bring them in towmorrow -unless someone else gives you the info first. I took digital photos of the signals at idle, 1000, 1250, 1500, 2000, 2500, 3000, 3500, 4000 and 7000+ RPM.

From memory, the signals on one wire to the ignitor was a square wave, the other had a nasty signal (a bit like a heart beat signal) that I didn't need for my application.

I also looked at the signal on three wires from the distributor. One is a square wave, another a sine wave and the third a nasty signal (again, not useful to me so I didn't pay much attention to it).

Hi!

Thanks for that! So most likely the 4afe tacho uses sine wave to function? Could I maybe use one of the wires from the distributor? What wire gave of the sine wave form?

Double thanks!

Tommi,

I'm showing my ignorance as I didn't know how to attach the pictures of the CRO onto this forum so I decided to send you it to email address instead.

Perhaps you could add the photos to your excellent web page?
