4AGE chewing oil and fuel?

Can someone please help me out with my problem...
I just put a 4AGE in my Sprinter, and havent yet got the O2 sensor hooked up as I need to extend the wire or get a 4wire sensor cause it is heaps far away from the head.
But I am only getting 180Kms to a tank and it is using a bit of oil, if I fill it just past full with oil, and then drive for about 1-2weeks when I check it the level is about 3/4 full?
Are both these problems a result of not running the 02 sensor or can other things be causing this?
The engine is sposed to have been recoed not that long ago?
Its only got extractors and a pod everything else is stock standard.
Has anyone else had this problem, my fuel bill is really killing me!
Many many thanks to anyone who can give me any adivce and help!
Cheers.

i know the fuel is due to the O2 sensor, friend did the gze conversion and had the same problem(needing longer wires) he drove around for about 2 weeks without it, the exhaust he had on it went from being shiny to a layer if black through out:P:P

Hey Witchy. I spotted your car on Windsor Rd goin onto Norwest Blvd last week... I was in the black impreza RS that gave you some on the roundabouts Nice ride mate.
The fuel prob will definately be cause of running the car without the sensor. Try to get the O2 sensor sorted and you should see a massive improvement in fuel comsumption.
Sounds like that's ALOT of oil the car's eating up though. What grade oil do you run in it? Might just be a bit too thin for the engine. I'm running Valvoline 10-40w and my 4age will eat about 1-1.5L of oil every 1000km or so. Any leaks you can see or any smoke being blown out the exhaust?

the 180 ks to a tank is not due to the oxy sensor, mine isnt hooked up and i am getting roughly the same fuel economy as when i had a 4AC.
sounds tired?, might be a wiring problem, does it seem to be lacking power?
id say stick in some heavier oil, and do a compression test.

that oil consumption isn't huge, mine will go from full to empty within 2 weeks and i'm guessing that mine has rings and valve stems that need replacing. but it still goes really well and takes plenty of abuse along the OPH. the 4AGE will cop a lot of abuse before it decides to die.

without the 02 sensor it is running in WOT{wide open throttle}mode as a saftey backup. been there done that! not good as you are washing the bores with fuel, which means alot more wear. oil use will be from a tired engine or you are reving the thing all the time to 7800rpm and the oil is being thrown out the breather.
