RA28 tacho signal

Righto, i'm starting to wire the 1ggte into the ra28, and one thing i've noticed just starting is that when the key is turned to IG, the tacho will jump straight to the end of its travel and stay there.
Where should I start looking for the tacho signal wire? Am I right in guessing that 12v is feeding into the signal wire somewhere?
Cheers, Matt

doesn't sound terribly happy...
ra28 should get signal from (-) side of the coil - my haynes manual shows it Black wire going straight to the dash -
the coil would have also had the igniter connected to that side of the coil.
sounds like you've given it 100% 12V by accident ... it should be a black wire running from dash loom to the big ugly loom that goes out thru the driver's kick panel wall into to the right guard and then appears where the coil (used to) live on the right wheel well.
(Matt: do you need a loan of my Haynes manual? you can have your cordia manual back as well )

It sounds like you wired it up wrong. My factory tacho in my GA61 took the signal from the negative side of the coil. The 1GGTE doesn't work like this. It has a 5V output like the 7MGTE, probably so Toyota didn't have to modify the dash electrics. You'll need a tacho booster ala the Sixworks one to get it working. After that, you'll need it recalibrated for a 6

Cheers Charles, haynes manual might be helpful, although i've just found some wiring diagrams from sixworks website.
Frank, nothing is wired up yet, so i'm not sure what is going on with the tacho signal, ie. the engine bay/body wiring should currently be standard, just sans the original 18rg.
I may have shorted something taking it out, or god knows what. Whether the 1g works with my factory tacho i'm not particularly worried about (just yet). I'm more worried about damaging/melting some of my current engine bay/body wiring which may make wiring the 1g more of a headache.
Thats why its puzzling, as I haven't actually done any of the 1g wiring, only pulled out the 18rg, so i'm at odds as to why the tacho would now be playing silly buggers.
Cheers, Matt
