so ive got a 84 4x4 hilux with a 3Y petrol, 5 spd man. and i have just bought a 90 jap surf halfcut with a 2L-T and 4 spd auto. i have a few queries...
1. am i going to run into any probs with the electronic front diff/transfer case?
2. does anyone have anytips for the conversion.
3. and finally does anyone kno of any qualified mechanics/engineers/auto elecs that can fit and wire it up for me on the cheap.... so far my mech has quoted me $1250 just to put the hardware in ( not including wiring it and all). is that good value or a rip off?
What do you mean electronic diff? AFAIK these cars still had manual locking hubs, you are not changing the front diff only the engine, gb and TC right? Also if the transfer case is like my bundy 4WD is engaged through the use of vacuum and the range is changed with a stick. If this is right you should have a large vacumm diaphragm near the Transfer case and you will need a couple of solenoids in the engine bay so when you press the transfer button the solenoid will open and let the vacuum through to the diaphragm which then engages the transfer case.
hey thanks for the info skip, the halfcut i bought has auto hubs and is IFS and as you kno mine is solid front diff. i have been told by a friend that it has an electronic diff and t/c, he mentioned i might have problems fitting it all together. to be honest im not an expert on these things which is why im trying to absorb as much info as i can...
