7M-GTE into RA40 Sat, 28 May 2005 11:50 Go to next message
Tech articles list the 7M-GTE as a valid conversion for the RA40. Has anyone actually done this conversion, and if so, where can I get some information on any of the difficulties that may be encountered. Additionally, what do the 1G GTE and 7M GTE weigh.

Thanks in anticipation.

Depends how you define "valid". Yes a 7M will physically fit if you try hard enough, but it will be bloody hard to squeeze everything into the engine bay and still have adequate cooling etc. They are quite a large engine and very heavy too, so forget any ideas about it going around corners. Also don't count on getting it street registered.

The 1G is a much more sensible option - they're a lot smaller and lighter and quite a few people have put them into RWD Celicas now.

That not good.
If he can't put a 7mgte in a RA40 that would mean i can put a 1jzgte in my SA63

u can get it registered with a 7M but it will be a front heavy pig.

that engine swap article really is a poor indicator of what engine can go into what and should be taken down

How? 7M = 3000cc, RA40 < 1100kg... AFAIK that's a no go.

and 1jz = 2500cc, sa63>1100kgs, so the high weight range rules will apply to your sa63

Thank you for the information. I was always going the 1g gte route, when the 7m HP figures caught my eye.

Guess the 1 g is back in the running.

or you could put a decent motor like a 3SGTE or 3TGTE which will give you better response and the same amount of power potential.

what is it that the 3T has that makes it have better response than the 1G?

2 valves?
asthmatic turbo?
less capacity?
