I have a friend who tried to gain extra power from a N/A 7m and it shit it self big time, blow out bottom bearings and everything.
I think the previous owner treated it bad but i think you will find that these motors are notorious for blowing head gaskets.
Either replace the motor with a 1j or similar or work the head and head gasket on the 7m.

the previous owner had the head gasket replaced, cost him a pretty penny.
so how much does a 1j conversion cost. does the 2j fit in. which is better.

1j conversions depend on a whole bunch of things. Amount of half cut (my friend used a jzx81 from a chaser cost about 2300 i think) exhaust, wiring, and a few extras. it bolts up to mounts ok its just the wiring thats a little bit fiddly, plus some of the sensors can be a little tricky as well, i'd speak to an engineer first, before i start buying. if you need info i can get him to contact you.

Probably a bit late but you can't tune a 7m or any other toyota with a factory ecu on it anyway. A dyno tune is useless, you set the base ignition timing with a gun and thats it.
It uses pre-determined ignition and fuel maps so you cant adjust any of those.

89 MX83 - Where in Brisdesert did you get the extractors? How much? I have been led to believe that ones designed for the 7m will also fit my 5m. If you know the part number of a pre-fab job that would be even more helpful.
Cheers
