6spd Gearbox + LSD from AE101 and VVTi Head onto AE102 7AFE Mon, 30 May 2005 11:23 Go to next message
My mate's parents are buying a new Corolla Very Happy and they test drove a few different cars. He said the Corolla seemed very smooth all through the rev range because of the VVTi. He suggested I find out whether the VVTi head would fit my AE102 7AFE? Would it? Would it make any difference to the power/torque?

The other thing is, my AE102 is currently an 5spd manual, but I noticed there is AE101 (4AGZE) had a 6spd manual, and LSD, I was wondering what the difference in gear ratios were, does the 6spd allow a lower cruising revs (at 100kph)? What about the LSD?

Firstly, No GZE came with a 6-spd, most likely either a AE101 BZ touring wagon box or an AE111 Levin box which came attached to a B/T 20V

VVTi head

20V head is the only one that will fit, but the 16V works better on the FE block.

Shorter gears, ie In first it will rev out quicker that of a 5-spd, similar second; third, fourth and fifth is where they seem to rev out longer and really make a difference and sixth is just an over drive ie not much difference to a 5-spd at the same speed- this is the best I can describe it without actually sitting you in my car and letting you take it for a drive. The LSD is just to put power to the ground.

Yeah, I was rather doubtful that the VVTi head would fit considering they are completely different engine code to start with.

The 20V and 16V heads are from the 4AGE aren't they? I'm looking seriously into putting the 4AGZE SC onto my motor (as you have read) would it benifit with torque/power to go with the 16V/20V head? (Well of course it would but would it be enough to justify the cost?)

Rev out even quicker in first gear? Far out, i thought mine rev'd out quick Razz So its probably not really much benifit then?

The LSD would help Very Happy I wonder how much one would be worth? You wouldn't get torque steer would you since both wheels spin? Would one be very hard to fit to my car?
