TRD head head gasket Thu, 02 June 2005 06:16 Go to next message
Does any one know the part number for a TRD metal shim head gasket to suit a gen 3 3sgte?
Does the gen 3 use a different gasket to the gen1&2?

The Gen3 3SGTE has a MLS gasket as standard.
I've got a spare new one from the rebuild kit I'm not going to use if you're keen for one.

The HKS MLS Gasket is listed as suiting 3SGTE engines from 1990 to 1995 in the MR2 and to 93 in the Gt4... I'm pretty sure Mr2's had the Gen3 since about 93.

I have discovered that the TRD gasket is in fact a genuine Toyota gen3 gasket. Can any one give any feed back on the quality of them or is a HKS one a safer option?Looking to run around 22 pound of boost,8:1 compression on 102 fuel in a race engine.

I use the genuine Toyota ST205 metal head gasket with ARP head studs and run 25psi every day an often over 30 psi , But over 30psi the 1st & 2nd gen heads seem to move between the two rear head studs and allow a bit of presure into the cooling system but I am talking optimum tune to produce the max power of 300+RWKW .

Toobs, whenever you see things listed as suiting the SW20 from 90-95 it'll be gen2. The US had the Gen 2 only in the SW20 and they stopped getting the SW20 after 95. It's generally US sites or companies listing things as suiting 90-95 although I have a TurboXS blow off valve fitting kit here that is for 90-95.

If you are after the TRD 0.8mm head gasket Warwick at Bowater Toyota in NZ can get it for you and last I checked the price was under $100 so it makes a HKS price look a little laughable.

However as stated the TRD metal is only 0.8mm HKS is 1mm or 1.6mm I use the 1.6mm it was costly but i belive worth it, I suppose it depends on what you want.

Hey Josh, why do you go through NZ for TRD gaskets? I'm looking to get one for my 20V, does it work out heaps cheaper?

Stuff from Bowater is very cheap so long as its available ex stock in NZ.
Its not too much different in Australia except we don't have very many performance import parts in stock so everything has to be shipped from Japaaaaaaahn!
