I am in the final stages of doing that very conversion with a 1jzgte. I would suggest your budget to be AT LEASED $5-6k plus the cost of the car.
You will need a 1/2 cut, jzx81 or jzx90, $2000-4000.
Exhaust $1000-2000.
Wiring and computer work, $500-1000.
Fuel pump upgrade, $300-500.
Trans and oil cooler, $600-1000. (essential for 1jz)
Remote oil filter kit (unless your a contortionist!), $300-500.
Brake upgrade (suggested), $500-2000.
Engineering, $500-1000.
+ TIME.
And thats using all the standard gear from the half cut and doing all of the work your self., if you want to upgrade intercooler and other parts add those too.
In saying all of that the end result is worth the money and time.
Have fun.
You know that you can get a jzx81, jzx90 Chaser imported now for about $12-17k.

I didn't think that JZX81s were eligible under SEVS? And they're not old enough to be brought in under the 15 year rule - from what I can tell, they were made from 90 to 92.
Please tell me I'm wrong! I'd love to import a JZX81.

I know for sure that the jzx90s are able to be imported.
I thuoght that that was the case for the jzx81, the reason I say that is that I have seen 4 of them this week in Sydney so I just presumed that they are compliable now??

Yeah, JZX90s and 100s are compliable now, but from what I've seen of the SEVS eligibility list, JZX81s aren't. Maybe the ones you've seen are GX81s with 1G-GTEs? They will be eligible in January under the 15 year rule.
Now I'm confused. If you've seen a few, then maybe I'm wrong. In which case, I can skip the MX83/1JZ conversion.
If you spot any for sale anywhere, let me know!

go to asian auto spares in slacks creek qld buy yourself a jzx 81 half cut (dont get a 90!!! be patient and get yourself an 81 it will be worth the wait)
remove the wiring from the engine and send it to sixwork with you old 7m one
dont skip that step ....i did and regretted it hard!!!!!!!!
get nder the half cut and unbolt the cross member and top of suspention (i even left the wheels on to make it easier to move around) the engine box suspention brakes will all come off in one piece (here you'll need a mate to lift the jzx's body over the good stuff ) lift up the cressi really high....guid the stuff under it using a good jack ...drop the cressi line everything up....then lift the car up from the engine get under and bolt everything up....ps the original exhaust will bolt straight up.....there you have it ....engine ,gbox , suspention, brake conversion in one step!!!
fuel lines ,ac ect all hook straight up...to start with just run all your standard dtuff i still am oh and put in a turbo boost controller while the engine is out.....the oil relocater is a really good idea but i didn't use one either...good luck and may the toymods force be with you...ps you'll love it when its done
this is the fast way i was talking about guyz!!!

I've spent the last couple of weeks researching it all, but I haven't heard of anyone giving the 1JZ a freshen up. Does anyone change the cam belt and seals while its out? Whats it worth in parts?
Now I've just got to get rid of my silvia and I'll be ready!

Definitely replace the cam belt if nothing else... you have no way of knowing how old it is. I've already bought a new one for my 2JZ, but the rest of the engine looks good so I'm not going to replace anything else.

Firstly,
I just want to backup what you said about sixworks, the guy is a MASSIVE help and is willing to talk you through all kinds of stuff.
for mx83toy.
Secondly
Thats exactly what I did. The old up and under!
Just out of curiousity how did you lift your car up the 70-85cm?
I used a 4wd high lift jack. It cranks to about 110cm. You really should have 2 of these to be safe, but I only used 1.
Allthough I wanted to I didnt do the timing belt because I didnt have anything at home that would undo something tightened to 320nm. I would have needed a lever about 12m long to undo that bastard!!
Did you put a oil or trans cooler on your setup? Ive been told its essential to have both if your gunna flogg it?
Anyway have fun. I hope to be out on the road with you soon.

i bolted a chain acros the front were the bumpe sits and lifted it up with and engine hoistmine was actually about a metre or more off the floor ... then put some truck stands under to hold it up (you gotta get the hoist outta the way)i'm not using a trans coola yet but they do need it especially if you drive it hard or boost it up ie just get one
1j if your in syd i go cruzin all the time so when your ready let me know
hey did you boost it befor you put the engine in???? if you didn't i also worked out alittle trick to make that alittle easier but its still a pain in the arse
happy 1j ing

I am in sydney, on the north side, where are you?
I would love to have a look at your set up someday soon?
Mine is still aleast a month or two away from being on the road, but when it is I would definately love to go for a cruise.
By the way what creesi do you have, grande, gxl, etc.
And what colour is your beast?
I have a maroon (yes it does have that maroon pimp style interior) GXL. Mines a '90 and is very straight.
Cheers
Kyle
