acrylic - common enthusiast paintjob, water based, not as glossy as 2 pack, dries slower, not as hard, easy to fix small sections when spraying.
enamel - not recommended at all
2 pack - common pro paintjob, very good gloss, hardens fast and well, need to have protective equipment, hard to fix small sections when spraying.
better finish with 2 pack but same finish can be achieved with acrylic.
yes there are lots of places that do a cheap respray. spraying is easy and about 10% of the paintjob. perparation is about 90%

Acrylic with a 2Pac top coat gives almost as good a result as complete 2Pac. But with a smaller price tag.

Non bake enamel, skins over, and dries very very slowly.
Baked enamel process involves heating the car first, which causes the paint to dry from the bottom out, no skin.
Most factory finishes up to the late 1980's were baked enamel.
Touch up was generally with acrylic.
Whole panel repairs were baked at panel shops.
cheers Chuck.

unfortunatly the rate of expansion and contraction between acrylic laquer base coat and a 2K clear is differant and therefore will separate over time giving the flaking off of the clear like old commodores etc. ie: dosen't work
the methods of blending and touch ups for acrylic laquer and 2k are the same, 2K if anything is less temperamental so easier for the amatuer. Solid coulors use a different method thats even easier again such as white or red.
enamel doesen't have the UV protection like 2k so will fade, touch ups are also tricky though i do it every day.

PPG paint resellers can supply "COBRA" paints.
Effectively it is an acrylic, with a 2Pak clearcoat.
The acrylic, and 2Pak are formulated to expand and contract at the same rate, which will reduce/eliminate the cracking mentioned in this thread.
cheers chuck.

Acrylic is the go for me, as I can't afford the protective equipment to do 2 pak - whereas what is required to spray acrylic is far less expensive.
Having said that, it takes a lot more work to make acrylic look as good as 2 pak.

If your going to paint in Acrylic go get some Protec Acrylic,
I tried a few manufactures when i painted the rally car, and they were by far the best, high gloss finish off the gun and virtually no sanding or polishing to get a good shine.
