just wondering about "the shaker" that is owned by the DOT (department of transport).
do they still use this thing in QLD? what exactly do they do??
i remeber they used to have it here in townsville for a while (before i got my license).
say they pulled you up and wanted to put your car in the "shaker", what would happen if you refused??
i just been thinking of it lately and how i would not like my car to have the shit shaken out of it.
sorry if this has been covered before but im just curious

Despite what Bond reckons I prefer my car stirred not shaken... so, no I would not let them shake my car, it wouldn't taste right.

I would let them put my car on there. Then I would be requesting that the car is replaced with a new one. Most cars these days are not built to withstand the abuse of the "shaker".
At least I would be forcing them to replace all electronic items. CD player, dash unit, and most defiantly the ECU's which control such items as the ABS braking system and the air bags. They have no argument against you requesting this as the manufacture will have it clearly stated on these items that they are sensitive to shock.

Its just a big jig they strap the car to and then shake the shit out of it to see if things fall off. Rust, bog, springs, engines, gas bottles, etc etc

personally I'd be demanding some kind of guarantee of compensation for the excessive wear on the shocks, springs, all bearings, engine mounts, gbox mounts, and all electricals.. otherwise they could nibble on my willy. Never seen or heard of this in NSW, but it's stupid beyond belief. can you imagine a Clio having to go through that? you'd have no mirrors or trim pieces left, and your windscreen wipers would fall off

so many responses.....
i get agrivated when i think of them (DOT guys) with such a weapon in their hands
but could you seriously think what would happen if there was a 1950's jet black chevy hot rod (example) perfect condition show car, with 1 inch clearance.....and they tried to shake it
do they still use this thing at all??

Yeah it would be interesting to see what would happen.
Just as long as the chevy owner didn't put the car on a weight loss diet. Then i'd say the ol' shaker would shake its last shake
