A/C System help needed...

Ok, I've got all the stuff out of the half cut except for the air conditioning, I need to know what to do to the gas? Is there a way of getting rid of it or has someone done this before? What about when the things back together and re-filling it? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
thanks

whenever i have had to remove the a/c, i have just cracked open the pipe bolts a bit till the gas starts to come out.. then i leave it for a while till it all goes out.. i dont know if this is the 'right' way to do it, but it works for me..
then when reinstalling i just bolt it all back together (using new o-rings if needed), take it to a mechanic and get it regassed..
seem's to work fine...

Bugman,
how do you do that? is it someone could do at home? or do you need the correct fittings and a vacum souce of some sort to get all the gas out? or do you take it to someone to get it out, and take back later to refill?
sorry for all the q's, i'm just curious....
thank's...

well you really should take the gas out and get it recycled(I'm guessing your talking about the old gas from the pre mid 90's era.)
and then change the RMD and liquid receiver and charge it with 134a, you shoulding be doing any work on these gases without a refrigerants license.

plus if any neighbor or anyone for that matter happened to dob me in about anything....well, look-out.
as i would turn rather, 'feral' and carry vengence like a red hot iron poker stick.....

hey luke, i might get you to have a look at my old school RA28 air con, since i dont know if it has been converted (doubting it) and i wish to continue using it (esp thru summer).
How do i know if it has been covnerted (looks old)? Whats involved with convertng to 134a from CFC style? expensive, easy?
sorry about question time, but i need to plan it all out and budget this cost in also.

I've just taken the air con out of my RA23 to put in one of my other RA23's. As it was already disconnected I didn't have to worry about the gas.
As mine is an old CFC one I'll have to get all the seals replaced and all the hoses checked. Apparently this can cost anywhere between $300 - $600 including the gas.

most auto electritians deal with air conditioning, they use a special suction tank to take out the old CFC gas, which creates a suction within the air con system and then they seal off the valves and fill it with the new ozone friendly 134A refridgerant, which is pulled straight into the system due to the suction within. They also change the receiver dryer and seals.

I think converting from the old CFC to the new one would cost around the $200 mark if condensor and compressor etc. in good condition, should be cheaper if you shop around.. good luck..
