Hi,
Yeah, I think it was called the 2M. It was a 6cyl 2ltre engine. It was a SOHC IIRC.
A few years later Toyota made a 4cyl, 2ltre engine, DOHC with the same power output and infinetly easier to upgrade and get more performance than the old 2M. This engine was called the 18RG!

Hi,
Yeah, I've heard of it, but I didn't think it came out in the early 70s. I think there were a few 6 cyl engines used in the Crowns back in those heady days, but I am not too familair with Toyotas early 6cyl engine models.
Perhaps you can illuminate me.

jeebus u guys get your facts straight, the 2000GT engine was called the 3M not 2M
heffa the closest you'd get to what your looking for is the MX45 XX celica or Mk1 supra (USA model) (also MA46 and 47)
it had a few styling cues taken from the 2000GT, and a 6cylinder M-EU or 4M-EU engine under the hood. these were not released in australia but there are a few floating around, Allan and Richard are 2 enthusiasts, they are in melb, and also there a young dude in perth whos got 2 of them hes parting out in the for sale section.
check this article out i wrote a whiles ago

http://www.geocities.co.jp/MotorCity-Pit/4126/gx71 .html
There were a few versions of the 1G block..... its still used today in the IS200...
I have seen a 1G-ufe (single can, 12 valve, EFi, ina mark 2 (early chaser))
The 1G-GE (24 valve, sporty head, EFi)
and we all know the 1G-GTE
I thought "the sporty 6 pot vesion of the celica" was infact the supra... in my eyes the 2000GT is the supras roots..
It all changed when teh celica went FWD (with a GT-4) and the supra broke away into a totally seperate model.. Its a shame now they don;t makea "hot" celica... rumour has it they are dropping teh celica and Mr2 names all together....
Toyota don;t seem to be interested in sporty anymore... economy sells

N.F.I.
I took the 18RG pic myself, at Toysport in Los Angeles.
I've seen the 16v 2T-G myself at the Toyota tent in 1984 at the Bathurst races.
Never seen a 16v 3K-R though, but I know two people who have. Both the engines were in Japan.
And yes, I'd love a 16v 3K!

newer doesn't all ways guarentee quicker. I'd take a 4A-GE (16 valve) over a 7A-FE any day
Also I don't understand something, 3M and massive induction in the same sentance? It was atmo mate.. or do I not understand you? :S

well if people are talking about 1G's
I drive a GZ10 soarer that currently has a 1G-GE in it. I think its actually a 1G-GEU but its all the same. the spec was 119Kw's at the fly at about 6500rpm. the main problem i had with it was the torque (180Nm @ 5600rpm!!!!!). it means that when its going, its going but it takes a while to hit its main power. i have takes commodore wagons with it so it goes pretty hard (my car is about 1100Kgs). Anyway i have now decided to 1G-GTE it so i have a spare 1G-GEU lying around. it has stuffed water pump and will need a new one but other then that it goes alright. it is getting a bit old and starting to smoke but it is prob just valve stem seals or something. anyway if your after a dead cheap 1G-GEU motor i don't want it any more.
