Worth it? Mon, 02 December 2002 00:52 Go to next message
Ok, I'm thinking of getting rid of the coolant flowthrough the throttle body.

Will it be worth it, or will the water condensation then able to get in not make it worth it? I know even our winter is hot up here, but what about humidity?

I figured I should be able to take the hoses off the throttle body, cap the connectors on the throttle body, and just put a loop hose on the points that the two hoses originally came from.

I did the exact same thing to mine last week. It ends up warming up & idling at about 2000rpm, as the air bypass stays open, and when the engine is cold it won't run for shit with the valve fully closed.
I ended up hooking it back up, but I would like to get rid of it, if only I could come up with an electricaly operated valve that I could hook up to my computer, instead of one operated by coolant temp....

So it determines idle?

I thought all the coolant passthrough did was to heat the throttle body up so it got rid of water in the air?

By a diagram I have, the water temperature sensor is nowhere near the throttle body. EDIT: It appears to be in the area of the unit that the hoses for the heater and the throttle body come off, and the main return to the radiator.

But if it could work, would it be worth it?

Should I try just for something to do?

can i ask why??
the coolent lines run though the "waxstat" (as it is called)
it is wax switch which acts as a 'idle up' for cold enignes!

Exactly what is it you are hoping to achieve by disconnecting it? maybe there are other ways of getting what you want by not disconecting it. I can explain how to do it so that nothing is affected but I think its important to know why you want to do it first, and secondly because im too lazy and tired to type it all out right now Smile

Ok, my theory is that the air going in will be cooler.

I've bypassed it on my new engine too. As I was hoping to put some forced induction on it later, I was thinking that if I take it out then it won't warm the air up. just a thought.
