Hmm yes kinda like that. Except I wouldn't have a boxed section under the mount, the mount would bolt straight through into the xmember.
But yeah like Norbie's picture there the mount is horizontal.

only thing i see may pose a threat to this method is how far the motor is goig to 'torque' as i say side to side under load.
with a \ _ / setup brackets fall in to a tapered position i guess. Where as the flat mount allows extreme side to side shifting should the mount rubber split / fail etc.
Dunno engines may not move in the manner i say here but this is just me thinking out loud.
And about the only threat i can imagine to such a setup.
Cheers

Hmm yes I see what you are saying.. Anyone else able to comment on if i'm better to keep them at a \ / sorta angle? Or flat ok?

falcons are mounted horizontally they dont really torque over that much even with the v8's, ford couriers/mazda b series utes also are mounted horizontally......and if you find that it does torque over too much you can put in stiffer mounts...

the difference will be the leverage on the bolts in the block...
if the mount is on a 45 deg angle, the same block weight is there, but there is less leverage on the bottom bolt...
i guess whaty i'm tryin to say is.. if the mount is angled, the engine will push the brackets into the rubber mounts...
if it's horizontal, you put a much greater tension on the bottom bolt.. tryin to pull it out of the block... whether this is an issue or not, i have no idea

Shouldn't be an issue.
7MGE's had horizontal mounts, where as 5MGE's had angled mounts.
Early 1UZ's had vertical mounts where as later ones had horizontal mounts.

So do you suggest using mounts that were intended to be mounted horizontal?

going by previous mention "hori" mounted vehicles, i guess it should be ok.
I would say yes to using mounts from a "hori" vehicle as such, as well as using upgraded / stronger bolts for mounting to overcome the potential issues on increased stress loads as explained by oldcorollas.
i wonder but if these "hori" mount vehicles have above norm engine bracing comparred to others?

It shouldn't make a difference providing the mount is properly braced.

agreed, it's easy to make a mount pretty bloody strong... and if ther eis little difference in block design between the two types of mounting (ie available on same block) it should be foine

I would say yes to this...
The style mount that you have in the photo AFAIK is made to move in a sliding motion, not in a up/down motion.
Using one this way may mean the engine moves side to side in the engine bay a lot and not let it rotate on its axis a little like its meant to.

Thanks for all the info
I'm thinking I might be best to put them on an angle. Little bit more work but then I can retain the standard mounts.
