Jonnys day out

I went and did practice laps at Baskerville raceway in my 2TG corolla. OK, I just wanted you all to know that.
Best time 1min 15.9sec. Track is 2km long with hills and bends and stuff. A guy in a WRX Sti was getting 1min 6sec, but on standard tyres. He says he does 1min 2sec on his 17" rims.
A guy in a standard Micra reconds he was beating me, at 1min 12sec, but he was not, he is full of it.

Cool to see the Old School 'rollas holding their own! If you get people saying they're faster than you just go out right behind them and give them hell for a couple of laps, just to prove a point! It's heaps of fun!

Yeah, right on. Did I mention there was a VP Commodore Calias there on the track? I was a tad faster, he let me pass in the end. He was faster on the strait but he couldn't handle the bends.
Other cars there, Nissan Micra, Honda CRX. We where all about even, realisticaly getting about 1min 16, - 1min 17sec. Except I was putting on a better show being RWD and all, getting a bit sideways into the corners and holding the drift!
And there was a AE86 there, with 3T-GTE - CT20. Getting 1min 13.75sec.
Also a Lancer GSR turbo, getting about 1min 13sec.
And also about 10 WRX's.

Hehe nice one.... As for the VP... it wasn't the car.... those cars handle beautifully.... just a chicken shit driver who couldn't handle it... but well done.. at time like that(even if it doesn't make the record books) is well worth a pat on the back.

A Commonwhore...handle well? Not even the new ones are supposed to be great, not without their huge reserves of tyre grip anyway.
An older one is supposed to be better?

I can see why you think the Commonwhore handles better than your Celica...it is a bit newer, would have cost more new too.
A lot of the Celica's etc. were supposed to have shitty handling from the factory, but once they get a bit of new suspension under them, their true..."quality" ...shines through!

Commodores handle well? usually this is said by people who've not driven anything but commodores. put them into a car that actually does handle well, and they shit themselves.
one of the apprentices at work reckons my sprinter runs on rails (he's used to a vk and a vr ute). I laughed and said my car is a boat, and I'll get him a ride in a mate's s14. that car handles. 1m 08sec laps of wakefield park. commodore cup cars do 1m 16's on the same circuit.
commodores are a good compromise car. they are big, comfy, and have reasonable performance. they are basically average at everything. if you want to handle properly, you need to sacrifice other things, like size, weight, and comfort. it's all compromise.
Justin...
