The car was pretty heavily modified and the fire started behind the turbo. They beleive that the turbo(GT28RS) got hot enough to heat up the firewall and it actually caused the paint on the inside of the firewall to catch fire which is why the interior is all burned out but the engine bay isnt too bad. The fire extinguisher was NOT in the car when the fire started. They had just left a club meet (haha Golf Club) so as soon as the fire started they called some friends to bring a fire extinguisher but because the fire was behind the dash and it was only a small bottle, there wasn't much they could do. They know it wasn't a bad install because it was running for a few months before this and after the fire the oil lines seemed to all be in tact.
Oh yeah and there were some high-res pictures from after the fire (don't have them anymore) where you could see that the roof had turned white from all the heat inside the cabin

i wouldve put my foot through the fucking dash and tore it apart to get to the fire :S
it got burnt anyway, id fight tooth, nail, foot, hand everything to get the fire out if it was my car
