ST165 to ST205 engine/gearbox conversion Thu, 16 June 2005 04:49 Go to next message
I've done a bit of searching and this and haven't found much. I'm not sure why...put the best GT4 engine/gearbox into the lightest shell...seems logical to me.

Is there anyone who has done this conversion or knows anything about it. If you have an ST205 front cut is it a pretty straight forward mechanical swap or is there some tricky fabrication required to fit the engine and/or the gearbox.

If I have a front cut do I have all the necessary parts?

Do you have to swap the whole loom/ecu over?

ST205 cuts seem to be pretty rare, does anyone know a good place to start looking for one and whats the usual price they go for?

Shouldn't be too much of a problem.
I would assume it would be much the same as an ST205 motor into the ST185.
i.e. keep the ST165 body loom and take the ST205 engine loom and adapt to fit, pretty much everything else bolts straight up.

ST205 cuts are getting very rare... importers who have them want premium prices and they usually sell pretty quick.
Expect to pay 5k+ for a decent ST205 front cut at the moment.

See the FAQ stickied at the top of Tech & conversions and you will find The front cut importers list... start your search there.

Thanks for that I will have a look at those importers.

So do all the driveshafts etc bolt up to the gearbox? I know there are a few people who have but ST205 gearbox's in ST165/ST185's any personal experiences about this swap?

Why do you think the front cuts are getting rare? They were only brought to australia in limited numbers but there was quite a few sold in Japan right?

I've heard people mention caldina (something like that) front cuts being the same. Are they the same engine/gearbox? Would using one of these cuts present any additional problems? Whats the availability cost like on these front cuts?

different engine intercooler and gearbox dude - the St205 got the best 3s package ever put together from the factory ..

I could have put you onto a group a gen 3 engine , GB and loom - but its already sold and beingf swapped into another st165 i believe in melb Smile

Im going out on a limb here but rollins in QLD seem to get these cuts fairly regularly compared to all the other dealers ive scrounged from - Cool1 off this forum might be able to help you out here
