Re: MR2 '90 2nd gen 3S-GE dyno result question.

I recently got my engine rebuilt, its a 3rd gen but i got a reading of 90kws@wheels. My 3rd gen 3sge is meant to have 130kws at the fly, so it does sound about right.

At our last dyno day at SAS a Gen2 3S MR2 put down 94.1KW and a really nice Gen3 put down 105.2KW. On the other hand a Gen3 swapped into an OZ delivered SW20 all stock setup made 154.1, very very nice car.
The results are Dyno Day 10 results.

Hmmm.... maybe it depends on the correction factor the dyno operator puts in. Mine was .88 SAE J607, not exactly sure what that means.
also 72.9kw is a 37% loss from the drive train, seems a bit high to me.

Yes 72KW is a little low even considering variances between dyno's. My MR2 was the Gen 2 that put down 94.1RWKW, it had a HKS filter, extractors and an exhaust, but I'd expect a stock Gen 2 3S-GE to put out 90 or so.
How long have you had the car for? has it been serviced? Checked plugs, leads, fuel filter, timing? They are a pretty zippy car when they are on song.
Just a note the 154.1 was from a 3S-GTE, not a GE. I got a ride in it, damn fast car

Ive had the car for about 8 weeks (2 weeks on the road), bought it at the damaged car auctions. It was lightly damaged at the front only.
It has a full service history with toyota services upto 140k, and regular services up until 208,000km.
I changed the leads, and checked the plugs, and timing belt was changed a few thousand KM's ago according to its history.
that dyno graph is similar to mine, except my my afr is a bit flatter, and mine dyno was performed in 4th gear, which is closest to 1:1 ratio.
Only other thing i notice is mine doesnt tend to 'jump' so much in power like yours does at 113km/h. its more steady and consistent climb

The Toymods Dyno day is run on a Dyno Dynamics dyno in shoot out mode, this controls all of the correction factors like inertia etc.

That's interesting. most of the dyno graphs i've seen including mine show a torque drop at about 3k+rpm? and then a big increase at about 4.5krpm? (approximately around there). I thought it was a 3sge gen 2/3 thing on just how the engine works.

I know the compression for the 3SGE is 10:1, but I don't know what it is supposed to be per cylinder, I'm sure someone on here will know.

Interestin result, i've got 86.8kw from a gen 1 3sge in a st162 celica... All it had was a 2.25" exhaust and a k&n Panel Filter. The timing was also quite severly limited, for some reason the timing was set to 6 degrees, standard is 10 degrees.

72kw is low, standard gen 1 3SG's put out about 75kw at the treads.
