4ac running rich Fri, 17 June 2005 15:07 Go to next message
Just got an AE82 with 4ac power... Prob is it runs rich as and uses a LOT of fuel, when you start it it idles rough before revving up, sounds like its on 3 cylns, but goes fine, it also hunts at idle.

oil and water are fine, doesnt over heat and drives very smoothly appart from the richness. Blows a LOT of black smoke and you can smell fumes...

is the choke stuck on? check your idle mixture needle (turn all the way in and back off two turns). Can't think of much else, unless there is a problem with EGR or something :S

Other wise replace carby/motor.

This sort of running is perfectly normal for 4AC's. Spend some time/money on the boring crap like plugs etc., as well as a carb rebuild, and it might improve a bit, for a little while.
