Pls help - Corsa

Hi all,
The corsa is running rough, the idle speed keeps going up and down between 1000 & 1500 rpm. It also stalls sometimes at idle, going below 500rpm. Any ideas what this could be? I thought maybe the timing is out and needs a tune. Thanks.

vacuum leak somewhere perhaps? stumbling at idle-only might be aix-air-valve - but thru the whole rev range would suggest air coming in somewhere where it shouldn't.

Corsa... Are we talking Commodore here, or Opel Corsa (Barina)?

Thanks Chuckster, someone on twin-cam forums said it could also be a vaccuum leak. The thing is Ive just had the engine replaced and all asscoiated hoses etc. It has been doing this idle thing since I have drove it back from alljap's. Someone else on twincam said it may be the sensor under the wheel or somewhere?? I think I'll just take it back to Alljap and say wtf!? This aint right! Cheers for your input
Yes it is a Toyota Corsa one of only 6000 units sold.
It was marketed as either a Corsa GP Turbo, Corolla II GP Turbo or a Tercel (USA). It contains a 1.5 3e-te engine.
Most related cousin is a EP71 starlet. Cheers

well - the engine supplier might have something to do with the problem??
i'd put money on an airleak - the hunting is the aux-air valve trying to compensate - if there was a problem in the dizzi you'd have timing problems thru-out the rev range and load-range.
Start and the airbox/AFM and make your way towards the throttle - something will probably be loose, split or not correctly attached... or stand around watching the mechanic who put the motor in solve the problem

Thanks mate. Yeah I don't doubt that you are correct. I'd have a look @ it myself, but seeing as though Ive paid alljap 2k i think they should be the ones fixing it. Not happy jan!! I'll take it there on the w/e. Would driving the car as is cause further damage?

excess (un-metered) air isn't going to help you - i'd just avoid flogging it and keep an eye on tempretures.
if they're a tricky mob they might compare odometer reading and say it all happened since they stuffed the motor in.
your call - but i'd not go too far or hard. Ring them up now (rather than waiting anymore) and book a time (that suits you not them) to come in and get problem fixed.

Shall do. Now that I think of it, there also seems to be a bit power lag between 2nd & 3rd gears. Could this confirm you theory?
