What later model cars had 2TGs. Sun, 19 June 2005 03:56 Go to next message
I'm after accurate info on what cars came out with a 2TG. The catch though is that they have to have an Australian delivered derivative.

The reason being is that I'm looking to build another rally car but I want to retain my current driveline. Under the regs you very basically can only use cars that are Australian delivered but you can use engines that were available in the same model overseas.

I've currently got a TA22. I want to know what later model cars had 2TGs. I've heard that KE70s/AE71s had a 2TG powered model but havn't found any info.

Any info greatly appreciated.

Cheers
Geoff

TE71 is the 1600cc T series version of the KE70. The 3T 1800cc was called a TE72 in most of the world but a T18 in Australia. Just remember, the 71 and 72 came in a large variety of body styles that can't be distinguished by the chassis number, the ONLY definite difference between them was 1600cc to 1800cc so a TE71 could be a 2T or a 2TG, a 4 door, 2 door, coupe or liftback. The 2TG versions were also fuel injected, not sure if this would cause an issue for you.

Hi,

I didn't think the 2TG came in any Australian delivered vehicle, unless it was a private import or a sanctioned import (from the manufacturer) for evaluation.

Yes but he asked for worldwide options with an Aussie equivalent. Would probably have to go with the T18/TE72 due to the KE and AE7*'s running rack and pinion. The 2TGEU was definitely available in the same shell in Japan.

Do your regs state that you need to use the original BLOCK, but the HEAD is free? In which case, you could either use a TE72, keep the 3T block and fit a 2TG head, or else use an AE71, with a 4AG.

Not sure if I'm remember the rule book correctly though!
