Actualy a car doesn't run at stoich the whole time. It runs lean at low RPM for economy and rich up high to protect the engine.

I think the convo was WX trying to tell insomniac to get a dyno tune after an exhaust upgrade due to the increased airflow from the mod.
I thought a car ran a little lean at the top for more power? like 12-13:1 at peak power? I guess it depends on the fuel and intake temps though.

to those who were talking about a/f ratios:
a car doesnt necesarily run lean on low rpm, its all about load. the car will run lean when on decceleration and rich on acceleration.
ra28, 12-13:1 isnt lean, its rich.
cars will generally run at:
warm engine idle 13-14:1
acceleration 11-12:1
cruise 14-16:1
full power 10-12:1

the www guy seemed to be saying in a roundabout way "when you put on an exhaust, cams etc (anything that flows more) you have to program it to inject more fuel and use a bigger spark to get most power possible. I think what he means is that if you don't do this, there's not much point in running more air (better thorttlebody, pipes, exhaust, pod filter etc)
So you're a whiney semantic little bitch who needs to play better with his friends.
He never meant "you tune the engine to adjust how much air comes in" even though he may of said it like that, he goes on for the rest of that draining conversation to explain that he means you tune the ecu to optimize this new found airflow (from extractors, and pod filter.) ^_^

well if exhaust refers to the exhaust system (not cams), how is it possible to tune for the cams and not the exhaust??

No competant tuner would tune for the gains of cams but not exhaust, but, it could be done, you could up the fuel mapping a bit, but not all the way

isnt fuel mapping tuned based on o2 reading?? so what do u mean by up abit?? as i understand, sometimes its up and sometimes its down unless u have a perfect A/F ratio line, which is quite impossible for us mere mortals
