our cars on the cover of the latest ZOOM magazine. Wed, 04 December 2002 10:59 Go to next message
has anyone bought the new zoom speacial edition magazine? thats our car on the cover. we just got back from melbourne from the supercar round and the car hit the wall on the back straight at over 220km\h. did a bit of damage to the frontend but the driver{fred} walked away with a sore neck and thats all. we have cut the front bars of the car and should have it fixed in a couple of weeks. the throttle jammed at full noise at the end of the straight, the motec data said the wheels locked at 245km\h when he jammed on the anchors about 40 feet from the wall. the G meter said the hit was 7.5G's. amazing how a well designed chassis can take a huge hit and have minumal damage. our car on the cover is one of three wee look after in the national sport sedans the other two are the calibra that i crew chief which got 9th and 9th and the 500k jag that got 5th and 6th . a link for zoom with the cover shot. just thought you guys would like to see what i play with for a living.

juzzo the car is in one piece for the magazine shoot as it was down three months ago hence it is still turboed and has now got a 350 chev as an 800hp turbo just dosnt cut it on the race track against 700hp 350 chevs. sorry to say that the old v8 dinasaurs are still miles faster around the track than any turbo motor.
and yes Youngy love my job get to drive and build some very fast cars on the road and track. the national race car team i run as my main job runs a calibra sport sedan, last week at the supercar round at sandown i had just fitted a hydrofork{throwout bearing} and had to test{:) } it in the pit rows at the race track, the rows are about 10 feet wide lined with race cars and transporters{but it ways about 6pm so not many people around}. we use a 3.7 diff{for sandown} with a hollinger dog box with the same gearing as the v8 supercars, i nailed it in 1st{big burnout} knocked it in to 2nd another burnout changed to 3rd and the thing went ballistic {has about 680hp{engine dyno not make believe chassis stuff} with about 520ft\p of torque at 3500rpm onwards}, then jumped on the anchors{8 spot brembos with 355mm x 1 inch rotors}. lots of fun . haha got back to the bay and the owner said how was the hydro fork? and i said what hydro fork, this f@#@@#@ new motor is ballistic with a big grin.

p.s 0-100km\h would be about 2.5-3.5 seconds in a sport sedan.

No disrespect,
But thats the biggest load of crap thats come from your mouth yet.

Look at the Gibson R32 GTR and even the 4banga ford Sierra's that used to sh*t all over the V8's at Bathurst in the late 80's and early 90's.

While were on the topic of zoom, my mates Magna will hopefully be in an upcoming issue...

It's one of the older square typoe sedans maybe around the 1990 date, but I'm not sure... It's running a VR4 motor, with a front mount, T04 turbo (???) and a whole lotta boost... I think it still runs a T04... He did some engine work since I last saw it so I really dunno..

Mikey might be able to help out here... Or just wait for the mag...

Kingmick, sorry to hear about the acco, hope the driver doesn't have a sore neck for the rest of his life...

sorry should have added for the people that dont know! in national sport sedans there hasnt been any turbo cars that have been able to match it with 350chev's as the said car did have a turbo for two years and it would take hundreds of thousands to get one to compete as a 2.5 litre is the biggest you can turbo charge within the class rules. there has been changes put forward to cams to raise it to 2.8 litre so the turboed cars can compete with the 350chev. you could have a turbo car that could mix it with the 350chev but it would take a very big budget to do it and as my team is about the only national sport sedan team with full sponsorship. the rest a wealthy men that like fast toys, the front running cars are all cost 300k-500k to build and develope but there are exeptions to this when they do alot of the building work themselves. turbos cant win at this stage because of class rules and budget.
suppose i should explain my statments futher in the future!
