Fitting Power Steering into a Hilux

Dad picked up a Hilux, 91 or 92 model, and doesn't have power steering. Just wondering, how much would it cost, to get power steering added?
His mechanic quoted 1 grand, installed... does that sound about right, or is there a cheaper method?
Will the power steering apparatus from any other car/ute work, or does it have to be from a hilux?
cheers

i think it would have to be from same model hilix.
quite alot of work I think.
and a pain in the butt with an engine in there
would have to change steering rack and add piping etc.
add power steering pump to engine pully system.
so i guess 1k is not too much of a bad price.
though i could be completely wrong

Contact your nearest wrecker, and ask them how much all the parts will cost to do the conversion. If the price is OK then you and your dad can go to the wrecker and get all the power steer components from another Hilux.
Then fit it all your self, should work out a lot cheaper then a grand.

lol nope, won't be able to do it ourselves, unless it's an easy job that doesn't require many tools. Have all the basic tools, but not anything to remove an engine or anything.
But as setsuna said, it's not an easy job, so it'd probably be easier to leave it to a pro.

not so HARD I think, but a pain in the ass?
I wouldn't mind power steering, but the effort required...
