pecticular computer problem Wed, 04 December 2002 17:00 Go to next message
well my problems first started when i was running an evaluation copy of win2k. after a cold boot my computer crashed from away to immediately to 30 minutes later of connecting to the internet. at first i thought i might have some driver problem but thought it may have been microsofts shutdown after 1 hour of use after the 30day evaluation period.

time ame when i installed xp. shutsdown when on the internet after a cold boot. nb. works normally if restart after cold boot the connect.

this leads me to believe its the modem. try a different modem....samething. try reinstalling internet explorer...doesnt help. service pack 4 internet explorer....no good.

try a fresh install (did this more then one time more like 3 or 4 after fiddling around) with no other programs installed but still no avail. i realise its either a piece of hardware or internet explorer but cant no longer be any other software as none are installed.

obvisously the hd has errors of some kind. i do remember having to run fdisk about 2 times. but how does this make my computer crash? and why does it only crash when im on the internet after a cold boot? my hd is still under warranty but would like to be able to tell the computer blokes whats going on instead of getting weird looks as if this is happening.
now did a clean install using my old 4gig hd. problem fixed.

If certain drivers required for connecting to the internet are damaged, then it could cause your computer to blue screen.

If the HDD has bad sectors, just send it back under warranty.
