hi
i have a hilux with a worked 18RGEU in it and i have some Q's
the gearbox in there right now is screwed its impossible to get it in to second its noisey and they clutch is slipping.
i have no idea what model box is in there now how can i tell, i have a spare one but id assume thats screwed as well cos the hilux SR5 it came from was really rough plus it apears the same except the plate where the gear selector sits in has 6 bolts instead of 4.
so whats a good replacement gearbox, what model, is anyone selling one?
whats a decent clutch to get, bang for buck, i dont street race all night long and do burnouts all day but i want something thats not gonna destroy itself.
thanks for anyhelp

to see what gbox u have, look on the compliance plate.
read the "trans/axle" part. it should say transmission first(ie. W50) then the axle/diff it has (ie. "G303")

To be honest, you must check whats on the car now. Because hiluxs also have an r154 gbox, its pretty much the same as the supra turbo boxs, but the difference is the length of the front shaft. One is 160mm and the other is 190mm, only the bellhousing is different to suit the lengths of the shafts.
If theres a w50 in it now there shouldn't be a problem to replace with the same box, choosing your own ratios.

well dam unlikely its original, well it isnt originally the ute ran a 12R with a 4spd columb shift.
i kno the spare box i had was a standard one, well id assume it was it was on the same model hilux SR5 2WD but as i said the housing for the gear lever had 6 bolts, the one in the car now has 4, so theres one difference.
tho when we had the boxes half out the drive shadt and tail shaft were the same, as far as i could see.

yeah i think the one in now is the celica steel case, see what i mean about the selector it has the selector boted down then below it is another housing peice that can be removed. thats whats in the car now.
the gear selector was the same as this but i had to put in the spare one that doenst work too well because the plate was mishaped onthe origainal and the bushing and spring would pop out wen selecting gears, ill spose ill have to go to my mates and find that.
what about taking it to a reco place. how much would i be looking at to get it recod. would that be a good idea?
also we had a bit of trouble getting that one out because my mate said the g/b cross member wouldnt unbolt it was welde but i have a feeling it unbolts .
more checking, was paying close attention to the housing bolts, my spare one apears to be http://www.conceptual.net.au/~peewee/Toyota_Supra_ 5spd.jpg
becuase of the selector housing. wich one would be worthwhile getting recod.
or is it better to get something else entirely.
thanks for the help
