How does cruise control work? Thu, 23 June 2005 12:12 Go to next message
A mate just bought a Sprinter with a GZE conversion today, the GZE is out of an AE92 Levin and the car has cruise control.
I was just wondering how it all works, cause I think it would be a pretty good thing to have. It would make the hour long drives to and from Oran park on Friday nights much easier!
Can you buy and install aftermarket kits, or would the kit on his car more than likely have been from the AE92?
If it is from an AE92, would it be too hard to find a cruise control kit from and AE92 and adapt it to fit on an AE82 bigport in my Sprinter?
Has anyone ever installed cruise control in their Sprinter or any other car? What kits did you use, and how difficult was it?
Thanks heaps for any info!
Cheers.

been a while since i fitted aftermarket cruise control kits, it inst a hard thing to do. (well i mean if i can, anyone can). Razz
some models can use the ECU's speed sensor as a pick-up and some use magnet/pick-up set-ups. if you have an ECU, then you most probably have a speed sensor wire you can tapp into.
where i am working at the moment we get some kits from Ashdown

theres another mob, but cant think of it at the moment. need more milo to get the brain thawed out. Laughing

aftermarket kits will basicaly work on any car. hard to know if someone would of removed the complete set-up from other car.

IMO would probably be easier to just buy an aftermarket kit and install it.

Would you like to know how it works, or would you like to know if you can get a kit to fix onto your car?

Does Ashdown sell to general public? From their website it looks like they only sell to businesses? I'm guessing to get bits from them (as an individual, not a business) you'd go through like... Repco?

Any idea how much the cruise control kits retail for?
