The Build Plate should tell you what model of Gearbox, unless it's in Kanji.
Can't imagine it would be too different from ST205.

It's still an S block so yes the boxes are interchangeable. I'm yet to see a manual in the flesh and have only seen one dodgy pic of one. I have seen the 215 engine up close though and no probs putting any of the 3S celica/MR2 boxes on that block.

My understanding of the auto box was it was tiptronic, so it might not be all bad?

thanks fellas
FWD, yeah it's kinda hard for me to communicate that i want to look at the build plate .. but i hadn't thought of checking gearbox code there .. will do
Justen, they are not very common at all.. out of maybe 100 caldina GT-T's for sale here, there are maybe 4 manuals...
what would you like pics of? i was going to get some under-car shots of driveshafts etc soon.. any suggestions for pics when i go for test drive?
Alchemist, the later St245 ones are tiptronic (and some are listed as manual! weird), but for 215's... i'll just have a look..
http://www.goo-net.com/cgi-bin/goojp/used/spread_n _w.cgi?goo_car_id=0100050702A4002361010&areacd =12&baitai=goo&flag=&lang= this one says MT, and is obviously an auto bugger ( i was looking at this one also..) looks different to the ST245 style, which has a seperate gate fro the tiptronic.. if ya know what i mean...
justen, do you know if there are big difference in driveshafts etc for 3S gearboxes? i guess i'm just trying to see if i can swap to a manual box later if i can't find an auto now (without importing a manual caldina frontcut later on...)

Tweakit imports had a ST215 manual half cut and were selling the engine and gearbox seperately. If that info is of any use to ou now that you're out of the country.

Thats pretty harsh... a front cut without gearbox!
If it was an ST245 I could understand but the ST215 caldina's are basically an ST205 minus some of the good bits!

It's a wagon any way you go.
All wagons are driven by old men
Personally I would go for Altezza RS200 if you can afford it.
How much are ST215s or RS200 ? In aussie dollars.

Yeah nothing wrong with wagons.
My wife has a V6 Camry Wagon which I get 2 drive.
Nice out on the open road.
And I'm almost an old fart !

Why not just buy an auto and buy the gearbox and appropriate bits of dash from tweakit?
$500 for a gearbox isn't too bad but $4500 for an ST215 front cut minus panels minus gearbox etc. is a bit steep.

the gearbox is only available with motor
maybe better to try and source one here before i leave....
but anyways, so basically, they may be available later, even at great cost .. and i guess they will be more common as time goes on?
there's not many manual St215's here either.. seems maybe 5%? or maybe the manuals just aren't up for sale....

Hmm... tempted to go down there and put a $50 deposit on the motor only (no gearbox) and then after they pull the gearbox out call them and say I don't want the motor anymore
That would fix em!
