Took the distributor out of my 4AGE today to replace a seal and can only remember roughly the position of where the rotor was facing.
When I put the distributor back in, if the gears are off by a few teeth of where they should be, is this still ok ? Can I just adjust the timing by adjusting the dizzy bolts or do I have to turn the crankshaft pulley etc like in the manual ?
Wow I must be damn lucky then to get it back on the right tooth. I dont have a timing light to check the timing and im worried about damage to the engine if my timing is too advanced. Im not too sure what 'pinging' sounds like but everything 'seems' to sound normal. I dont know if at idle the sound of my engine is its normal tapping noise or if it sounds bad because im listening too hard.
I think if you've changed your timing your idle will also change. Is it idling any higher than before?
Also if its too advanced it will ping under load so that means pedal to the metal and tick tick tick.
