lol, im gonna take a stab in the dark and say he's looking at the kw (at engine) / weight (curb / dry weight)...
so 100kw - 30% = 70kw atw / weight + driver + fuel = 1100kg
giving a total (true) kw / kg figure of 15.7 + 1 sec for reaction (girl driver )
= 16.7 sec quater mile...
Complete bullsh*t theory.. but close enough...

lol,
on a side note, faster car = faster time to shops = more time at shops = more of your money spent..
If she is not a hardcore racer spend the money on giving the car some individuality..
Go for seat covers, stereo, flashy lights... chicks dig preety stuff.. failing that box a pod filter and whack on a cat back exhuast / muffler of no less that 2'25" tip diameter to make it sound like she is going fast...
If you got the money go for BLING wheels... 5sfe and performance is just going to dissapoint..

Wow, 7 Secon d prelude!
Yeah, dont bother doing engine work, just get a set of nice 16" rims, and some lowered springs (i reccomend coilovers).

Okay so its gutless.
Can anyone tell me what extra power a 2 1/4" straight through would get out of it in in kw? Would a performance difference even be noticeable?
I cant believe that an engine with such large capacity is so.. slow..
So your saying we shouldnt waste our time with the straight through?

well the 5sfe is designed to be an economical car and not a sports, because the 5sfe is off the camry's, i doubt you'd get any serious power from a straight through, might also need a CAI and maybe aftermarket ECU of some sort to get it to 110-120ish kw.

Well I just spoke to her and she sounds pretty happy with it. I think the lowering it on some lovells will probably be the only mod.
So what does the 5SFE have inside, a mouse on a wheel with a packet of cigarettes? No VVTi?

if your really keen beans about performance - impoert a St202 GT frontcut from japan - its got a 3sge beams ( super pokey 2 litre twin cam ) motor and LSD standard
not cheap though - last check was about 5 grand for the front - but it would be a relatively straightforward swap

I thought the SX celica's had the 3S-GE? Obviously this isn't the case, what's the letters to engine codes for Celicas? (SX for Corolla being 4A-GE instead of 4A-FC for example)

Nah man, Aus delivered celicas in 5th and 6th gen (after the st-162) used the 5s-fe with the exceptions of the GT-fours. Thats why their model numbers end in a 4 instead of a 2 i.e st-184 and st-204 as opposed to st-162.

no the OZ delivered celicas that were SXs stopped havin the 3sge in them when they went to st184 and started puttin 5sfes in them, till the newer ones that have VVTI, so basically in OZ the 3sge only went from 86 to 89 in celicas, though in japan they continued to have 3sges and lots other goodies such as Beams.

So what's the advantage of owning an SX Celica over a regular one? Interior features / wheel size, that sort of thing?

luxo pack,
like Stinger Series is to Holden.
with stinger series, its usually a kit/skirts, special embroidery, rims etc. etc.
nothing at all to do with performance. just make it look better, the stinger series astras dont look all too bad...

well i believe that the sx in the gen 6 was the base model, and they also had the ZR model, think that was the luxo pack.
