looking to buy an 89' mrk2... anyone else own one? Sat, 25 June 2005 23:33 Go to next message
hey guys.

as the title says. im having a look at a 1989 model mrk2 gt and was just woundering if anyone out there owns one or knows much about them. its the factory manual version with a 1g.

so motor first. i know these are a good little motor but have also heard something about the turbos not being to strong? cant remember exactly what i read (or find where i read it)is this true? are there any other probs with the 1g motor?

ive got jamie (the one with the 1j navara ute from JT racing) looking at it so he should pick up anything major probs.

other then that its really neat. only done 130 000kms and never been boosted. so i guess its just rust checks and any funny noises.
would love to find someone else out there tht owns one as i know there was only ever 500 made world wide in manual form

any help would be great

thanx

nick

If you are looking at the white one on Ebay at the moment them its a solid car.

Its owned by a friend of Grant from Sixworks, who I beleive knows the folks at JT Racing quite well (I'll stand corrected).

The guy selling it (Grant) is a top bloke and will not lie to make a sale.

You would've read it in an HPI or Zoom mag, and where they fuck they dreamt it up, I don't know.

They get confused between the pre-update models and the later ones.

Even so, the difference is negligible...

I mean, there's minor differences, but nothing that would make you say that it is UGLY...

minor differences like the different front grille patters, different colour griffin on the front, slight different interior options, spoilers, on the later models there was quarter panel badges, more chrome on the rear lights, different paint options, etc etc

different steering wheel shape... trivial things.
