AE86 with Tokico Short Strokes. Sun, 26 June 2005 11:26 Go to next message
Ok People, I just had a Great day out, but discovered that the grip limit for my sprinter is nowhere near good enough. I have a whole range of things to start toying with (swaybars, Camber Caster, Tyres etc), but if those out there would feel like sharing the set up on there Tokicos, that will give me a better start point.
Im currently looking for more rear end grip.

Fronts are set half way, (4 turns out)as a start point, as per the instructions. They seem ok for the moment, the rear is causing more concern. Rear was also set 4 turns out, but i thought i had too much "bounce", so i turned them in 1.5 turns. This may have been too much, especially for bumpy mountain roads in the wet.

I doubt this will suddenly fix it all if i get it right, but i gotta start somewhere Very Happy

Tell us your current setup. What spring rates? What tyres? What anti-roll bars?

Shocks that match the springs are a very good thing, but it may be the rear springs are too stiff. Maybe the rear tyres are too narrow, or just not a good brand.

7/5kg springs and I find 1.5 turns off hardest on the front and 1 turn off on the back is good for drift. 3 off both is pretty ok for normal driving. Any more and the car is just spring and no damping.

Play with the adjustment 1/2 a turn at a time, it's pretty sensitive.

Plus I agree with Johnny.

Yeah, Im running the same springs as you, But with 4.8 on the rear. Rear swaybar is the Whiteline adjustable setting, at its second softest. Tyres are 195's, but they are a little old(Was planning on spinning them off at the drift once sorted), The stock rims with new Michellins work better, but Im still chasing a bit of imbalance Front to rear.
But i do agree, more than 3 seems to be all springs
