ae86 4age sump removal

The sump on my rwd bigport 4age is leaking. Is it possible to remove the sump without removing the engine? i dont want to break the seal to find out that it's stuck.  I'm guessing it might foul the strainer, but it should be ok if i undo the strainer right?

if it was an aw11 i would say yes but im unsure with the ae86

i have taken the sump off the 4ag while still in the car to fix the oil pump, Strainer doesnt get in the way, you just have to remove the 2 lower engine to gearbox mounts.

i removed mine without removing the engine and without undoing mounts,
once i had it unbolted and broke the seal, i turned it and dropped it down.
it was easy in the end, i put it off for a while because i thought i would have to remove the whole engine but in the end it was easy!!

makes it easier to undo the engine mounts, and jack up the engine as well..
if you've got power steering, i wouldn't bother doing it in-car. took me all day once..

easy
i did it in the car, without undoing any engine mount nuts etc.
a good idea would be to have rachet ring spanners, uni joint extensions and a helping hand. The strainer might get in the way, just manouvre is out

Bah, just drop the crossmember and hold the engine up by the gearbox stays

thanks guys, i got the thing off. one of the weird things i found was that the engine-gearbox mounts werent bolted to the geabox!
